Senior DevOps Engineer (Cloud/DevSecOps)

Paxus is partnering with a large Federal Government program to engage an experienced Senior DevOps / Cloud Engineer to help modernise and operate critical cloud platforms and DevSecOps capabilities supporting enterprise data and analytics environments.

Contract duration: To 30 June **** + Up to 2 x 12 months

Location: Canberra (ACT)
n
Working arrangement: Hybrid – on-site full-time for the first month (or until across the ICT landscape), then minimum 2 days/week on-site in Canberra
n

The opportunity
n
You'll work closely with delivery teams to provide and support secure, scalable environments that enable fast, reliable delivery through automation, self-service, and strong DevSecOps practices. The work spans Azure and hybrid cloud platforms, with a strong focus on infrastructure as code, CI/CD, cloud security controls, and operational excellence (monitoring, resilience, cost optimisation).

Key responsibilities
n
n
Design, build and support secure, scalable, resilient cloud infrastructure and platform services
n
Build and maintain Azure and hybrid cloud environments aligned to standards
n
Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates, or equivalent)
n
Design/implement/support
CI/CD pipelines for automated deployments (app + infrastructure)
n
Embed DevSecOps controls across the delivery lifecycle (security, compliance, quality)
n
Cloud networking, IAM, encryption,
monitoring/logging/observability
n
Optimise availability, performance, resilience and cost efficiency
n
Troubleshoot complex




infrastructure/deployment/operations
issues
n
Implement and remediate security controls aligned to Australian Government security requirements (ISM/PSPF)
n
Vulnerability management, patching, dependency updates, technical debt reduction
n
Backup/DR/BCP support
n
Participate in design reviews, architecture governance and technical assurance
n
Provide technical
leadership/mentoring
and contribute to documentation and knowledge transfer
n
n
What we're looking for
n
Essential experience
n
n
Senior DevOps / Cloud Engineering experience in Azure and hybrid environments
n
Strong IaC skills
(Terraform/Bicep/ARM
or similar)
n
Strong CI/CD engineering capability and automation mindset
n
Proven delivery of secure-by-design cloud solutions (DevSecOps)
n
Experience with
monitoring/observability,
incident/problem resolution, and operational support (runbooks, documentation)
n
Ability to work in office in Canberra as per the hybrid requirements
n

Desirable
n
n
Prior Federal Government / regulated environment experience
n
Hands-on experience with DR testing and recovery procedures
n
Familiarity with enterprise data/analytics platforms (data platforms context)
n
n
