The Role: Want to be a part of our exciting growth journey?
We are looking for a talented, passionate, and motivated individual to join our team as a Senior Financial Accountant, where you will play a critical role in keeping the accounting records behind our month-end close accurate, well maintained, and audit-ready.
You will own revenue recognition entries and core month-end journals, run the close, support tax and audit compliance, and lead a small offshore finance team.
The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting judgement (particularly on revenue recognition), deep hands-on Xero experience, and a track record of setting standards for and reviewing the work of others.
Key Responsibilities
Post revenue entries in Xero each period,
applying the revenue recognition policy independently and flagging edge cases or judgement calls to the Finance Manager
Prepare and post month-end journals, including accruals, prepayments, and non-routine entries, with transparent supporting documentation
Run the month-end close checklist in Asana, following up outstanding items ahead of their deadlines and escalating blockers early so close completes by WD+6
Complete reconciliations and close tasks to a standard that requires minimal review, and contribute accurate analysis and variance commentary to management reporting
Review journals and reconciliations prepared by less experienced team members, coaching through errors rather than quietly correcting them
Oversee the fixed asset register and intercompany reconciliations across Traild entities, signing off the monthly reconciliation to the general ledger
Act as the accounting-side reference point for our Tax and Compliance Specialist, and provide workpapers, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for the external audit
Own data quality and integrity in Xero for the ledgers you are responsible for, and partner with our BI Analyst so clean, reconciled data flows into reporting
Design scalable processes and document them as SOPs, embedding practical AI use cases where they cut manual effort out of the close
Lead a small offshore finance team: set expectations for quality and turnaround, build technical capability through training and feedback, and run a regular cadence of one-to-ones across time zones
Who You Are
CA/CPA qualified, or actively working towards it
5+ years in a technical accounting role, with strong exposure to revenue recognition, month-end close, and multi-entity reconciliations, ideally in a subscription or SaaS business
Deep, hands-on Xero experience and advanced Excel or Sheets for reconciliations and close workpapers
Experience reviewing the work of a more junior or offshore accountant, including setting process and quality standards, giving direct feedback, and knowing when to step in
A working understanding of tax treatment and compliance, enough to act as the accounting-side reference point (preparing lodgements sits with our Tax and Compliance Specialist)
Comfortable making and defending accounting treatment calls, and arriving at an escalation with a recommendation rather than only a question
Methodical and self-managing, holding the same standard every close with little supervision, and able to explain accounting treatment clearly to non-technical colleagues
Based in Australia, ideally Melbourne or Sydney, and comfortable working day to day with colleagues in another time zone
Strong collaborator with an attitude embracing growth, hands-on execution, adaptability, and the scale-up spirit.
