We're looking for a
Technical Sales Estimator
to join our team and play a key role in delivering accurate, compliant and commercially focused drainage estimates for a diverse range of customers.
From homeowners and installers to merchants, regional and national housebuilders, you'll provide trusted technical expertise to ensure every project starts with the right design, the right information and the right solution.
This is a varied role sitting at the heart of our technical and commercial operation. You'll combine your ability to interpret complex drawings and specifications with strong commercial awareness, helping customers find effective drainage solutions while supporting sales growth and excellent customer service.
Your technical knowledge will add real value throughout the customer journey. From initial enquiry and design support through to quotation and follow-up. By producing clear, accurate estimates and providing credible technical advice, you'll help build customer confidence, improve conversion and contribute to the long-term growth of Polypipe Building Products.
What You'll Be Doing
Technical Estimating
Interpret architectural drawings, site plans and drainage layouts to produce accurate material take-offs.
Create drainage material schedules and pipe layouts in line with relevant technical standards and Building Regulations.
Ensure estimates comply with Polypipe design guidelines and current industry requirements.
Review designs for potential installation issues, design conflicts and technical risks, identifying these at an early stage.
Apply value engineering principles to optimise system performance and cost where appropriate.
Technical Support
Provide pre-quotation technical advice to merchants, developers, contractors and internal teams.
Respond to customer queries relating to system design, installation requirements and product suitability.
Support the Technical Sales team with solutions for complex, bespoke or challenging drainage projects.
Help resolve specification gaps, drawing inconsistencies and missing technical information.




Maintain strong knowledge of Polypipe's drainage product portfolio and recommend appropriate solutions to meet customer requirements.
Commercial & Estimating
Produce accurate, competitive and timely quotations based on customer requirements and project scope.
Understand pricing structures, margins and the commercial impact of design decisions.
Identify opportunities to upsell, cross-sell and introduce enhanced or complementary drainage solutions.
Ensure quotations support profitable growth while remaining competitive in the market.
Maintain accuracy across Bills of Materials, pricing, take-offs and supporting documentation.
Workflow & Internal Support
Manage your workload effectively, prioritising multiple quotations and projects to meet agreed SLAs.
Maintain accurate project histories and quotation records within CRM and internal systems.
Contribute to the ongoing improvement of estimating processes, templates and tools.
Work closely with External Sales, DBAM, Customer Experience and Operations to provide a seamless customer journey.
Sales Generation
Support the sales pipeline by delivering clear, technically robust and timely quotations.
Identify opportunities to introduce additional Polypipe product ranges and system solutions.
Work closely with the external sales team to identify high-potential projects and ensure rapid turnaround.
Produce professional proposals that enhance customer confidence and strengthen Polypipe's reputation.
Contribute to upselling and cross-selling by identifying suitable system enhancements and complementary products.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who combines strong technical knowledge with commercial awareness and excellent attention to detail.
You'll Ideally Have
Previous experience in a Technical Estimator, Estimator or similar technical role.
Experience within drainage, civil engineering, construction or building products.
Strong experience reading and interpreting architectural, M&E; and drainage drawings.
Proven experience producing drainage take-offs, material schedules, Bills of Materials or estimates.
Strong technical knowledge of drainage systems, pipe layouts and associated solutions.
Good understanding of Building Regulations and relevant industry standards.
Experience supporting technical sales, quotation processes and customer-facing technical enquiries.




Experience using estimating software such as Bluebeam or similar.
Familiarity with CRM systems and digital workflow tools.
Experience managing multiple projects or quotations in a fast-paced environment.
Strong numeracy, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
AutoCAD experience would be advantageous.
