What This Role Involves
As a
GambleAware Counsellor
, you will provide recovery-oriented counselling, assessment and therapeutic interventions to individuals, couples and families affected by gambling harm.
This is a
full-time, 6-month maternity relief position
, providing an opportunity to join a supportive and collaborative team while making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families experiencing gambling harm.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will support clients through evidence-based interventions, risk assessment and management, individualised care planning and coordinated referral pathways.
You will also have the opportunity to engage with the broader community, helping to increase awareness of gambling harm and promote access to support.
This role will suit someone who is compassionate, clinically capable and confident in building meaningful relationships with clients and community stakeholders.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
Provide evidence-based counselling and therapeutic interventions to individuals, couples and families experiencing gambling harm and associated mental health concerns.
Conduct comprehensive assessments, care planning and risk management to support clients with moderate to complex presentations.
Use flexible,



creative and recovery-oriented approaches to encourage help-seeking and promote positive client outcomes.
Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation while meeting professional, ethical and organisational requirements.
Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, coordinating care and building strong relationships with internal and external service providers.
Develop community and stakeholder relationships, promote GambleAware services and increase awareness of gambling harm and available supports.
Contribute to professional development, clinical supervision, service evaluation and continuous improvement, while managing competing priorities and responding to changing community needs.
Desired Skills and Experience
What Makes You Stand Out – Essential Criteria
We are looking for someone who brings both professional capability and a genuine commitment to supporting people to achieve positive change.
You will have:
Relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or another recognised Allied Health discipline, with current or eligible professional registration.
Demonstrated counselling experience, including therapeutic interventions or psychosocial support.
Knowledge of gambling harm, addiction and mental health, including relevant intervention and stepped-care approaches.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working within multidisciplinary teams and building positive relationships.
Commitment to recovery-oriented, trauma-informed and client-centred practice,



with the ability to maintain qualified records and work within clinical and ethical requirements.
