About the role

The Premier Events Operations Manager sits within the Experience Melbourne branch and offers an exciting opportunity to play a key operational leadership role in delivering some of Melbourne’s most iconic major events.

Experience Melbourne works to position Melbourne as Australia’s leading events capital and a destination of choice for visitors. The Premier Events team delivers a portfolio of high-quality events that drive visitation, support local businesses and contribute to Melbourne’s cultural vibrancy.

In this role, you will take the lead on the operational planning and delivery of the Christmas Festival and Moomba Festival, overseeing everything from event infrastructure, logistics and site operations through to contractors, staffing, stakeholder management, safety and operational risk. You will also provide operational expertise and support across other City of Melbourne events and special projects.

A little more about the role

- Lead the operational planning, coordination and delivery of major City of Melbourne events, particularly the Christmas Festival and Moomba Festival.
- Oversee event infrastructure, site operations, logistics, compounds, operational services, staffing and event communication systems.
- Lead operational planning across risk, emergency management, traffic and crowd management, contractors, budgets and compliance requirements.
- Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, contractors, service providers and operational working groups while providing expert advice on event feasibility and delivery.

About you

You are an experienced major events professional with a strong operational background and the confidence to lead complex, large-scale event delivery from planning through to execution.

You bring a calm, solutions-focused approach and are comfortable working across multiple operational streams, managing competing priorities and making sound decisions in high-pressure event environments.

What your experience might look like

- A tertiary qualification in event management and/or extensive senior-level, operationally focused event management experience, with 5+ years’ experience in major events.
- Demonstrated experience delivering major outdoor events or programming-led festivals, including complex crowd, transport and site operations.
- Strong knowledge of event operations and logistics, including planning and scoping, risk and emergency management, OH&S;, traffic management, staffing, major contracts and financial management.
- Experience managing event infrastructure, Capital Works projects and/or asset management programs.
- Demonstrated project management capability, strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, regulations, local laws and operational requirements.
