About the role

Mater Private Hospital Gold Coast is seeking a Instrument Technician to work within our Central Sterlisiation Services Department team. This position will be employed on a casual basis. Mater has finalised the strategic acquisition of Healthscope’s Gold Coast Private Hospital, this is a significant milestone in Mater’s commitment to delivering exceptional and compassionate care to Queensland communities.

Based at our Gold Coast Campus, this role will be part of our state-of-the-art 339 bed facility located in Southport. This facility was established in 2016 and offers a wide range of specialities across Emergency, Medical Services, Orthopaedics, Bariatrics, Neurosurgery, Plastics, ENT, General Surgery, Obstetrics, Cardiac Care and Oncology.

Salary range: $35.74 - $37.46 per hour plus superannuation plus casual loading and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

You will support the theatre and CSSD team in activities that ensure the provision of a safe and efficient sterilising service. You will also participate in hospital quality management systems in the unit to ensure a continuous improvement focus. Your enthusiasm and skills will see you seamlessly integrate into this outstanding team, assisting to provide an exceptional level of care and to hit-the-ground-running.

- Provide an exceptional sterilising service by effectively cleaning and preparing surgical instruments for sterilisation appropriately
- Manage resources effectively by ensuring stock levels of sterile items are well maintained and delivered, used equipment is collected, wastage is minimised, and by reporting any malfunctioning machinery and equipment




- Foster a learning setting by maintaining own professional learning and continuous professional development and providing teaching to peers and less experience staff
- Act as a valued member of the inter-disciplinary team, working with the Unit Manager and clinical team, participating in meetings, and demonstrating attention to detail and time management

About you

- Must hold / or be enrolled in a Certificate III in Sterilisation Services (mandatory)
- Relevant experience and knowledge in undertaking Sterile Services functions at an operational level within a Hospital or other large organisations
- An understanding of a commitment to the Mater Mission, Values and their practical relevance to Sterile Services issues
- Effective communication skills with staff, customers and service partners and the ability to function as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Experience in Risk Management and Continuous Quality Improvement Systems and a commitment to the introduction of Best Practice
- Experience in Workplace Health and Safety issues in Sterile Services
- Experience in loan set processing highly advantageous
