We’re working with an innovative technology business that is investing heavily in AI and looking for an AI Systems Developer to join their engineering team.
This is a hands-on engineering role sitting at the intersection of software development, AI and infrastructure. You’ll be responsible for taking AI capabilities beyond experimentation and turning them into reliable, production-ready systems.

The majority of your time will be spent working on the core application and helping build the systems and tooling that support the company's AI capabilities.
The RoleYou’ll be responsible for:

- Building, improving and maintaining production software.
- Developing and integrating LLM-powered features, AI agents and retrieval systems.
- Building data and ETL pipelines that support AI applications.
- Working with model APIs and modern AI tooling to deliver practical solutions.
- Contributing to internal AI engineering and developer tooling.
- Taking ownership of features from development through to production.
- Improving system reliability, performance, latency and cost.
- Implementing monitoring, tracing and alerting across application and AI workloads.
- Troubleshooting production issues and contributing to incident response.
- Working closely with engineers to improve how AI systems are developed, tested and deployed.

What We're Looking ForWe're looking for a strong software engineer who is comfortable working with production systems and has hands-on experience building with AI.

You'll ideally have:

- 5+ years' commercial software engineering experience.
- Strong experience building and supporting production applications.
- Solid Ruby on Rails experience — this is particularly important as the core application is Rails-based.
- Strong PostgreSQL experience.




- Experience working with AWS.
- Experience with Terraform / Infrastructure as Code.
- Hands-on experience building applications using LLMs, AI agents, RAG/retrieval or model APIs.
- Experience building data or ETL pipelines.
- Experience with production observability, monitoring and alerting.
- An understanding of reliability, scalability, latency and infrastructure costs.
- A pragmatic approach to engineering, with a focus on shipping and operating real software.

AI ExperienceWe're particularly interested in engineers who have gone beyond simply integrating an LLM API and have experience thinking about how AI systems operate in production.

This could include experience with:

- AI agents and agentic workflows
- RAG and retrieval systems
- LLM application architecture
- Model APIs / model serving
- AI evaluation and testing
- AI coding agents
- Developer tooling
- Data pipelines supporting AI applications
- AI observability and monitoring
- Managing AI performance and infrastructure costs

You don't need experience across every area. Strong software engineering fundamentals combined with genuine hands-on AI experience are more important.
