Aboriginal Family Support Services
Aboriginal Family Support Services (AFSS) is one of South Australia's largest Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, supporting Aboriginal children, young people, families and communities since 1978. Through a broad range of child protection, family support, kinship care, youth, housing, community and cultural services, AFSS plays a vital role in helping Aboriginal children remain connected to family, community and culture while strengthening outcomes across metropolitan, regional and remote South Australia. With a workforce of more than 400 dedicated staff, AFSS is recognised for its cultural leadership, strong community connections and lasting contribution to Aboriginal communities across the state.
Reporting to the recently appointed Chief Executive, Shona Reid, and working closely with the Board and Executive Leadership Team, this newly created role has been established to strengthen financial stewardship, commercial oversight and organisational sustainability. With responsibility for finance together with oversight of ICT, property and assets, the CFO will play a key role in supporting AFSS through its next impactful chapter under new leadership. Key responsibilities include:
- providing strategic financial leadership and advice to the CE, Board and Executive Leadership Team;
- strengthening financial stewardship, governance, reporting and organisational performance;
- leading budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling and long-term sustainability planning;
- overseeing government funding agreements, contract management and acquittals across a complex service portfolio;
- building strong relationships with government agencies, funders and key stakeholders;
- improving financial systems, reporting capability and business intelligence;
- providing oversight of ICT, organisational assets, property and facilities;
- leading and developing finance and corporate support teams while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement;
- supporting strategic planning, investment decisions and future growth opportunities.
The successful candidate will be an appropriately qualified (CA/CPA) senior finance executive with experience leading in a complex, multiprogram environment. You will bring strong commercial acumen, experience in government funding and contract management, and a demonstrated ability to provide trusted advice to CEOs, Boards and executive teams. Experience within human services, community services, health, government funded or purpose driven organisations will be highly regarded. Equally important will be your ability to build relationships, communicate complex financial information clearly and lead teams through change with authenticity, empathy, sensitivity and credibility. Exposure to Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations or culturally responsive service environments will be beneficial.
Working alongside a new CE and committed Board, you will help strengthen the organisation's long-term sustainability and capacity to deliver lasting outcomes for Aboriginal children, families and communities across South Australia.
Explore this outstanding chance to contribute to one of South Australia's most respected Aboriginal organisations at a significant point in its evolution.
