Job Description
Knomis is a specialist remedial building engineering consultancy. We diagnose building defects and damage and design the repairs — across strata, insurance, commercial and residential projects. We're growing our engineering team and looking for a capable remedial engineer who wants to own investigations end-to-end.
n
The role
n
You'll investigate building defects and damage, determine cause and extent, and prepare engineering reports, repair recommendations and detailed scopes of works — primarily across the building envelope (façade, waterproofing, enclosure) and structure, including Class-2 remedial work.
n
What you'll do
n
n
- Undertake condition assessments and defect diagnosis — concrete spalling and reinforcement corrosion, waterproofing and membrane failure, façade and enclosure defects, structural cracking and movement.
n
- Design and document remediation — details, specifications and scopes of work to the NCC/BCA and Australian Standards (AS 3600, AS 4654, AS 3740, AS 3700, AS 4100, AS 1684).
n
- Carry out site inspections and investigations (including invasive testing where required) and produce transparent, technically defensible reports.
n
- Convert findings into a practical, priceable scope of works — quantities, materials, demolition extent, temporary works and access.
n
- Where insurance / forensic work is involved: establish causation and clearly distinguish event‐related damage from pre‐existing damage, defects, workmanship and wear — for insurers,
loss adjusters and builders.
n
- Liaise with owners corporations, insurers, builders, consultants and contractors; support delivery and site reviews.
n
n
We value depth across remediation, building envelope / façade, waterproofing and structural remediation. Forensic / insurance‐investigation experience (causation analysis, expert‐standard reporting) is highly regarded and a genuine growth path here.
n
n
- Degree in Civil and/or Structural Engineering.
n
- Australian engineering experience, ideally in remedial, structural, building diagnostics or forensic work.
n
- Working knowledge of the NCC, Australian Standards and NSW building legislation, including the DBP Act 2020 and Class‐2 requirements.
n
- Strong technical report writing; comfortable forming and defending professional engineering conclusions.
n
- Site‐capable, WHS‐aware, Construction White Card; current driver's licence.
n
- On a pathway to (or holding) Chartered status — CPEng / NER / RPEng. We support and fund registration.
n
- On a pathway to (or holding) NSW DBP Design Practitioner registration — waterproofing / building‐enclosure or structural class.
n
- Experience with strata and insurance‐panel remedial projects.
n
n
Why Knomis
n
n
- A broad remedial portfolio across the whole building envelope and structure — real variety, real ownership.
n
- Genuine support for professional registration (CPEng / RPEng / DBP) and specialisation.
