WHO YOU ARE
This Darwin-based role is responsible for leading and coordinating site-based construction, maintenance and repair activities, ensuring work is completed safely.
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Proven experience in a Leading Hand, senior labouring, trades or construction site role
- Strong practical skills across construction, maintenance, repair and general building activities
- Experience interpreting plans, specifications and work instructions
- Ability to coordinate labour, materials, tools and equipment to meet project requirements
- Strong understanding of workplace health and safety requirements within construction environments
- Proven leadership capability with the ability to mentor and support team members on site
- Sound communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with workers, subcontractors and management
- Strong work ethic with a hands-on, solutions-focused approach
- Hold a current Construction Induction Card (White Card)
- Hold a current Australian Driver’s Licence
- Hold a current Forklift Licence (LF)
- Hold Scissor Lift Verification of Competency
- Hold a current Elevated Work Platform (EWP) Licence
- Hold Working at Heights competency
- Physical fitness and the capability to undertake manual construction activities safely
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Lead by example and provide hands-on support across construction, maintenance, alteration and repair works
- Interpret plans, specifications and material requirements to support efficient project delivery
- Coordinate daily site activities and monitor progress to ensure work is completed safely and to the required standard
- Undertake a range of general building activities including carpentry, steelwork, reinforcement fixing, metalwork, ceilings, partitions, linings, painting, landscaping and labouring works
- Manage site resources, materials, tools and equipment to maintain productivity and minimise downtime
- Ensure deliveries are received, checked and stored correctly to prevent loss or damage
- Load, unload and move materials, tools and equipment as required
- Monitor the safe operation and condition of plant, tools and equipment
- Maintain safe, clean and organised work areas through effective housekeeping and waste management practices
- Set up and dismantle fencing, signage and barriers to establish safe work zones
- Ensure all PPE, site safety procedures and company policies are followed at all times
- Assist tradespeople and machine operators with construction and operational activities
- Act as a key point of communication between site personnel and management, providing updates and supporting coordination of works
- Mentor team members, promote a positive site culture and support workforce development
- Help resolve day-to-day site issues to maintain programme and productivity outcomes
- Represent DCOH professionally and uphold the standards set out in the DCOH Code of Conduct
