About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Civil Construction Trainer & Assessor to join our team in Broome, Western Australia, delivering practical, industry-focused training to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learners.

This is an exciting opportunity for a trainer who is passionate about creating genuine employment pathways through vocational education and supporting Indigenous learners to gain the skills, qualifications and confidence needed to enter and succeed in the civil construction industry.

You will deliver engaging, culturally respectful and practical training in a supportive environment, working closely with learners, employers, community organisations and industry stakeholders.

The successful candidate will combine strong civil construction experience with a genuine commitment to learner development, workplace safety and positive employment outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

- Deliver high-quality civil construction training and assessment in accordance with relevant training packages and RTO policies.
- Facilitate practical, hands-on training in civil construction environments.
- Deliver training to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learners from a range of backgrounds and experience levels.
- Create a culturally safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment.
- Assess learners fairly, consistently and in accordance with assessment requirements.
- Provide mentoring, coaching and constructive feedback to support learner progression.
- Identify learners requiring additional literacy, numeracy or learning support and work with the appropriate support team.
- Maintain accurate training, assessment and learner records.
- Monitor learner attendance, engagement and progress.
- Liaise with employers, supervisors, community representatives and other stakeholders.
- Support learners to develop workplace readiness, employability and job-specific skills.
- Participate in assessment validation, moderation and continuous improvement activities.
- Ensure all training and assessment activities meet current VET compliance and workplace safety requirements.
- Maintain current industry knowledge and ensure training reflects contemporary civil construction practices.

- Experience delivering RII30820 Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations or other relevant civil construction qualifications will be highly regarded.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

- Current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122, TAE40116, TAE40110 or approved equivalent/successor), or an appropriate higher-level VET/adult education qualification.
- Relevant civil construction qualification and demonstrated industry experience.
- Demonstrated vocational competency in the civil construction units being delivered.
- Current industry experience in civil construction, earthworks, roadworks, plant operations or a related field.
- Strong understanding of competency-based training and assessment.
- Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Ability to engage learners and create a positive learning environment.
- Current driver’s licence.
- Ability to work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learners and communities.

Desirable

- Experience delivering RII30820 Certificate III in Civil Construction Plant Operations.
- Experience operating and training others in civil construction plant and equipment.
- Experience delivering training in regional or remote Western Australia.
- Previous experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learners.
- Experience working with Indigenous employment and training programs.
- Strong understanding of culturally appropriate training practices.
- Previous RTO or TAFE experience.




- Knowledge of the Standards for RTOs 2025 and current VET compliance requirements.
- Additional tickets or competencies in plant, machinery, construction or safety-related areas.
- Experience supporting learners with foundation skills or diverse learning needs.
