We're hiring! Mechatronics Engineer
Join a global organisation transforming public health
At the World Mosquito Program (WMP), we are helping protect millions of people from mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue, Zika, yellow fever, and chikungunya through an innovative, sustainable solution that is transforming public health outcomes around the world.
With operations across 15 countries, more than 16 million people protected, and the recent opening of the world's largest Wolbachia bio factory in Brazil, we are entering an exciting phase of global growth. To support this journey, we're seeking an early-career Mechatronics Engineer who is passionate about hands‑on engineering and enjoys solving real‑world problems.
Working alongside scientists and engineers, you'll contribute to early‑stage engineering R&D; by designing, building and testing electromechanical systems that move rapidly from concept to validated prototype.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing, assembling and iterating mechanical, electronic and mechatronic prototypes
- Creating CAD models, manufacturing drawings and technical documentation
- Developing and executing laboratory and bench test plans, analysing data and documenting verification results
- Supporting hardware design reviews and translating concepts into clear engineering specifications
- Building automated test capability using scripting tools (e.g. Python) and developing embedded systems knowledge
- Working safely within laboratory and biosecurity environments while maintaining rigorous documentation and traceability
- Collaborating with internal researchers and supporting technical reviews of externally developed designs
We're looking for a great talent with:
- A degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical or a related engineering discipline
- Approximately 2–4 years' engineering experience (including internships, placements or graduate projects)
- Practical experience with CAD, electromechanical assembly, wiring, debugging and prototype development
- Solid technical documentation and problem‑solving skills
- An interest in verification & validation, product development and engineering for regulated or safety‑critical environments
Why join WMP?
- Work on engineering solutions with global public health impact.
- Be part of a collaborative team where you'll gain exposure across mechanical, electrical and embedded engineering.
- Grow your technical capability while contributing to innovative product development and applied research.
- Collaborate with experts across engineering, science and operations to develop scalable technologies that can protect communities around the world.
Location & Working Arrangements
- Location: Based in Clayton, Melbourne with a flexible hybrid working model.
- Global Collaboration: As a global organisation, candidates will need to demonstrate flexibility to accommodate occasional meetings outside standard Melbourne business hours.
Applicants must have valid, ongoing working rights in Australia.
