High Risk Trainer & Assessor – FIFO & Metro Perth
Location: Perth, Western Australia / FIFO Sites
Employment Type: Full-time / Part-time / Casual
Industry: Vocational Education & Training (VET) / High Risk Work Training
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated High Risk Trainer & Assessor to join our growing training team in Western Australia.
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified and industry-experienced trainer who enjoys a varied role, combining FIFO delivery at client and mine sites with training and assessment across Metro Perth.
You will deliver high-quality, practical and compliant training and assessment to workers and employers across a range of high risk work and related training programs.
The successful candidate will have strong industry knowledge, excellent communication skills and a genuine commitment to workplace safety, competency-based training and positive learner outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality training and assessment in accordance with relevant training packages, units of competency, regulatory requirements and RTO policies.
- Conduct practical and theory-based training and assessment at Metro Perth facilities and FIFO/client sites throughout Western Australia.
- Deliver training in a professional, engaging and safety-focused manner.
- Assess participants fairly, consistently and in accordance with approved assessment tools.
- Provide clear, constructive feedback and support participants to achieve competency.
- Maintain accurate training, assessment and participant records.
- Complete all required documentation, including assessment records and training evidence.
- Liaise professionally with clients, site representatives, supervisors and participants.
- Travel to regional and remote work sites as required.
- Participate in validation, moderation and continuous improvement activities.
- Maintain current knowledge of relevant legislation, WHS requirements, industry practices and VET compliance obligations.
- Ensure all training and assessment activities meet applicable Western Australian regulatory and industry requirements.
High Risk Work Scope
Experience and current competency in one or more of the following High Risk Work Licence areas will be highly regarded:
- TLILIC0003 – Licence to operate a forklift truck (LF)
- TLILIC0005 – Licence to operate a boom-type elevating work platform (WP)
- TLILIC0004 – Licence to operate a slewing mobile crane (C2)
- TLILIC0006 – Licence to operate a non-slewing mobile crane (CN)
- TLILIC0002 – Licence to operate a vehicle loading crane (CV)
- TLILIC0010 – Licence to operate a slewing mobile crane (C6)
- TLILIC0011 – Licence to operate a slewing mobile crane (C0)
- Dogging, rigging and scaffolding qualifications and/or relevant training experience will also be highly regarded.
- Candidates with multiple HRW classes are encouraged to apply.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122, TAE40116, TAE40110 or approved equivalent/successor), or an appropriate higher-level VET/adult education qualification.
- Current and relevant industry experience and vocational competency in the high risk work areas you will deliver.
- Relevant current High Risk Work Licence(s) and/or industry credentials applicable to your training scope.
- Demonstrated experience delivering training and assessment to adult learners.
- Sound understanding of competency-based training and assessment.
- Strong knowledge of workplace health and safety and secure operating practices.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a professional training team.
- Ability and willingness to travel to FIFO and regional/remote sites.
- Current Western Australian driver’s licence.
- Ability to satisfy site access, medical, drug and alcohol and other client-specific requirements.
Desirable
- Experience delivering training within the mining, construction, resources, logistics or heavy industry sectors.
- Experience working across FIFO mining and resource projects.
- Multiple High Risk Work Licence classes.
- Experience delivering associated units such as working at heights, confined space, gas test atmospheres,
dogging/rigging or other safety-related training.
- Previous experience working within an RTO environment.
- Knowledge of the Standards for RTOs 2025 and current VET compliance requirements.
- Experience using online learning and assessment systems.
- Experience working with learners from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds.
FIFO & Metro Perth Work
This role offers variety and flexibility, with the successful applicant splitting their time between:
Metro Perth
- Scheduled training and assessment at our Perth-based facilities.
- Client premises and metropolitan workplaces.
- Practical assessments and refresher training.
- Supporting local industry clients and individual participants.
FIFO / Regional & Remote
- Travel to mine, construction and resource sites across Western Australia.
- Delivering onsite training and assessment.
- Working with client supervisors and site personnel.
- Supporting workforce competency and compliance requirements.
- FIFO rosters and travel arrangements will be discussed with suitable applicants and may vary depending on client requirements.
