Position Overview

- Position Title: Head of Department – Humanities and Social Sciences
- Employment Basis: Ongoing teaching position with a three-year leadership appointment
- Anticipated Start Date: January 2027 (or by negotiation)
- Pay Range: Queensland Lutheran Schools Single Enterprise Agreement plus Position of Added Responsibility (PAR – CL2) allowance

The Role

St Andrews Lutheran College is seeking an outstanding educational leader to lead the Humanities and Social Sciences Faculty. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced teacher and middle leader who is passionate about curriculum excellence, innovative pedagogy, and developing both staff and students.

The Head of Department will provide strategic leadership across Years 7–10 Humanities, including Civics and Citizenship, Economics and Business, Geography and History, and oversee the delivery and development of Year 11–12 QCAA Humanities and Social Sciences subjects. Working closely with teachers and College leaders, the Head of Department will foster a culture of high expectations, collaboration, continuous improvement, and academic excellence.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the strategic development and implementation of Humanities and Social Sciences programs across Years 7–12
- Provide instructional leadership that enhances teaching excellence, student engagement,



and academic achievement
- Lead curriculum planning, assessment moderation, quality assurance processes, and QCAA compliance
- Mentor, coach, and support teachers through professional learning, feedback, and collaborative practice
- Use evidence-informed approaches and student data to improve learning outcomes and departmental performance
- Promote innovation, interdisciplinary learning, cultural responsiveness, and effective integration of digital technologies
- Contribute actively to whole-school improvement initiatives and foster positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues

About You

- Proven success as an experienced secondary Humanities teacher with the capacity to lead curriculum and pedagogy across Years 7–12
- Solid knowledge of the Australian Curriculum and QCAA senior secondary requirements
- Experience leading or contributing to curriculum development, assessment design, moderation, and quality assurance processes
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop high-performing teaching teams
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data and evidence to inform decision-making and improve student outcomes
- Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills

- Capacity to build collaborative relationships and foster a culture of trust, accountability, and continuous improvement
