About The Role

As a result of our continued growth, BMD Constructions is looking for an experienced and commercially astute Lead Estimator who wants to do more than price work — someone who wants to help win the right projects, build strong teams and contribute to a culture where people genuinely back each other.

Reporting to the Chief Estimator, you will be a key part of our Pre-contracts team, leading the preparation, coordination and delivery of competitive tenders across a diverse portfolio of construction and infrastructure projects. You will work closely with estimators, estimating assistants, construction personnel, planners, subcontractors and suppliers to develop accurate, practical and strategically positioned submissions.

You will be supported by experienced construction personnel for methodology input, a dedicated planning team for programme support and a collaborative estimating group that pulls together when it matters.

Key Responsibilities

- Review and analyse tender documentation to develop a thorough understanding of project scope, requirements and key deliverables.
- Identify, assess and communicate project risks, opportunities and cost drivers to support informed commercial decision-making.
- Source, review and evaluate quotations from suppliers, subcontractors and plant providers.
- Attend site inspections, client briefings and pre-tender meetings to gain insight into project constraints and requirements.
- Prepare accurate and detailed estimates using industry-leading estimating tools, historical data and market intelligence.
- Analyse project costs, indirect expenses and pricing strategies to develop competitive and commercially sound submissions.
- Coordinate and manage tender documentation, ensuring compliance with client requirements and submission deadlines.
- Participate in tender reviews, negotiations and internal approval processes.
- Support contract award activities and ensure consistency between tender submissions and final contract documentation.
- Prepare comprehensive tender handover documentation and provide ongoing support to project delivery teams.
- Mentor and support junior estimators, helping to build their capability, confidence and career pathways.
- Work collaboratively with construction and planning teams to develop practical methodologies,



programmes and tender strategies.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors.

About You

You are a highly motivated estimating professional with strong commercial acumen and a passion for delivering successful project outcomes.

You Will Bring

- A degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
- Demonstrated experience in a Senior Estimator, Lead Estimator or Estimator role within the construction and infrastructure sector.
- Strong knowledge of estimating methodologies, tendering processes and cost planning principles.
- Proven experience preparing detailed estimates and managing multiple tenders simultaneously.
- The ability to identify project risks and develop practical, commercially viable solutions.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- High attention to detail, strong organisational skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
- A genuine team-first approach, with the ability to collaborate, share workload and support others through busy tender periods.
- A willingness to mentor junior team members and contribute to a positive, supportive team culture.
- Experience using estimating software such as Expert Estimation, CATS or similar platforms will be highly regarded.
