Commercial hatchery leadership | Jamesway multi-stage experience essential
We are seeking an experienced Hatchery Manager to take ownership of the operational, technical and people performance of our commercial hatchery.
This is a specialist leadership opportunity for someone who understands hatcheries from the inside out – particularly the technical disciplines required to achieve consistent hatchability, chick quality and performance from Jamesway multi-stage incubation systems.
Processing up to approximately 1.3 million eggs per week, this is a significant operation requiring a leader who can optimise an established hatchery, build capability within the team and drive greater consistency and performance.
Looking ahead, there is also an opportunity to contribute your technical expertise to the future evolution of our hatchery operations and technology.
About the role
Reporting to the GM Agriculture, you will lead a team of approximately 30+ employees and take responsibility for the end-to-end hatchery operation across incubation, hatch operations, chick processing, vaccination, dispatch, maintenance coordination and biosecurity.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Lead daily hatchery production to achieve chick numbers, quality and delivery requirements.
- Lead daily hatchery operations to achieve chick quality,
production and delivery requirements.
- Manage and optimiseJamesway multi-stage setters and hatchers.
- Drive improvements in hatchability, chick quality, contamination and processing efficiency.
- Monitor critical incubation parameters including temperature, humidity, CO₂ and airflow.
- Use hatchery data and KPIs to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.
- Lead labour planning, productivity and development of supervisors and the broader hatchery team.
- Maintain strong biosecurity, animal welfare, hygiene and food safety standards.
- Partner with breeder farms, veterinary, technical, maintenance, quality and supply chain teams to improve overall hatchery performance.
About you
This is a specialist hatchery appointment combining deep technical knowledge with strong operational leadership.
- Proven leadership experience within a commercial poultry hatchery.
- Hands-on experience with Jamesway multi-stage incubation systems.
- Robust technical knowledge of incubation, hatchability and chick quality.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse hatchery performance and improve KPIs.
- Strong knowledge of biosecurity, hygiene and animal welfare requirements.
- Experience leading and developing operational teams and supervisors.
- A hands-on, solutions-focused approach to working in a high-throughput hatchery environment.
- Experience with vaccination programs, hatchery upgrades, commissioning or new hatchery technology will be highly regarded.
