Regional Group Australia has over 40 quarries across eastern Australia and is continually expanding into key growth regions. The Quarry Geologist will play a vital part in managing the company's natural resources and ensuring our quarry operations run efficiently and safely.

You will be responsible for undertaking quarry exploration activities; geological modelling and interpretation; material quality evaluation; reviewing and updating the Company's rock reserves and resources for each site; providing mine planning and design services to our operations teams; and supporting on the management of geotechnical risks at our quarries.

You will work in a dynamic team environment across Regional Group Australia's operations teams and Planning team, while engaging with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders and subcontractors. The role provides an exciting chance for travel across eastern Australia with exposure to diverse geology, while maintaining a balance of office and site work.

This full-time, permanent role will initially be based at our Sydney office with the flexibility to relocate to Brisbane, Newcastle, Dubbo or Melbourne locations after an initial training and probation period.

Key Responsibilities
n
n
- Plan and manage quarry exploration programmes utilising internal and external capabilities
n
- Supervise drilling campaigns and undertake geological logging and sampling to update our understanding of subsurface conditions
n
- Review data to produce geological models for sites, evaluate rock quality and potential risks, plan and arrange sample testing,
and provide expert advice on mineral quality to operations teams
n
- Collaborate with Quarry Managers to provide quarry design and mine planning services to ensure our sites are operating safely, efficiently, sustainably and in compliance with development consent conditions
n
- Update and maintain the geological and spatial data for our sites.
n
- Undertake reserve and resource assessments; update and maintain the Company's reserves and resources ledger
n
- Undertake geotechnical inspections, audits and slope stability assessments to identify geotechnical risks and provide advice on the management of geotechnical risks to Operations teams.
n
- Provide geotechnical and quarry development advice to Operations teams and the wider RGA as required.

Required Skills
n
n
- Bachelor of Science degree in Geology, Mine Engineering or other closely-related discipline
n
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in the surface extractive industries (quarrying or mining)
n
- Experience with GIS applications (e.g. QGIS, ArcGIS)
n
- Competent in the use of common Office software applications
n
- Valid and current Class C driving licence
n
- Numerical, analytical, problem solving and observation skills.
n
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
n
- Ability to work within a team environment.
n

The following skills are desirable, however full training will be provided for the successful applicant:
n
n
- Experience of geological mapping, core logging and the description of rocks & soils to AS 1726
n
- Experience working with near-surface geophysical exploration data
n
- Familiarity with common construction material standards, e.g. AS 1141, TfNSW, TMR, VicRoads
n
- Geological modelling using standard industry software (e.g. Leapfrog, Surpac)
n
- A strong understanding of surface mining techniques and mine planning concepts
n
- Knowledge of soil & rock mechanics, geotechnical design and slope stability assessments
n
- Experience with Rocscience or other common slope stability analysis software.
n
- Familiarity with surveying techniques and working with survey & topographic data.
n
