About the role

The First Aid Trainer delivers and assesses nationally recognised first aid training on behalf of Secure Work Training. Delivery covers the units HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation, HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, and HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting, in public courses at company training venues and at client sites. The position is a training delivery role. It does not include consulting work, training product development, or maintenance of student records in the student management system.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver each course using the approved training and assessment strategy, session plan and learner materials for the unit.

• Teach and demonstrate first aid and resuscitation technique in line with the current Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, and update delivery when those guidelines are revised.

• Assess learners using the approved assessment tools, including the practical demonstrations and written questioning required by the unit, and make assessment judgements that are valid, sufficient, authentic and current.

• Conduct practical resuscitation assessment in accordance with the assessment conditions of the unit, including uninterrupted compressions performed on the floor on an adult manikin and on an infant manikin.

• Adjust delivery to suit the language, literacy and numeracy needs of learners, and apply reasonable adjustment to assessment where the unit allows it.

• Complete attendance records, assessment records and evidence within the timeframe set by the Training Coordinator, and submit them for entry into the student management system.

• Verify learner identity and Unique Student Identifier details at the point of delivery.

• Collect learner feedback at the end of each course and pass it to the Training Coordinator.

• Report learner progress, attendance, conduct and welfare concerns promptly.

Arrangements:

• Work is offered course by course. There is no guarantee of ongoing or minimum hours, and either party may decline an offer of work.

• Keep current availability recorded with the Training Coordinator, accept or decline offered courses within the timeframe requested, and give as much notice as possible if unable to attend a course already accepted.

• A casual loading is paid in lieu of paid leave entitlements, in accordance with the National Employment Standards and the applicable award.

• The Casual Employment Information Statement sets out the casual employee definition and the pathway to change to permanent employment.
