About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Workshop Supervisor to lead our fabrication team and oversee the day-to-day operations of a busy engineering workshop. This role is responsible for ensuring all projects are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards while providing robust leadership, technical guidance, and support to the workshop team.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
Coordinate and supervise all workshop activities, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and to specification.
Allocate jobs, manage daily workflow, and monitor progress across multiple concurrent tasks.
Provide technical guidance and problem-solving support to the Leading Hand, boilermakers, and apprentices.
Oversee fabrication, welding, fitting, repairs, and maintenance tasks in line with engineering drawings and standards.
Quality Assurance
Conduct inspections at key stages of fabrication to ensure compliance with drawings, codes, and client requirements.
Maintain workshop documentation, including job cards, QA records, and traceability where required.
Uphold high standards of workmanship and proactively address quality issues.
Safety & Compliance
Lead a strong safety culture by enforcing WHS policies, secure work procedures, and risk‑mitigation practices.
Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings, and incident reporting.
Ensure equipment, tools, machinery and vehicles are maintained, serviced, and operated safely.
People Management
Supervise, mentor, and develop team members, including apprentices.
Support performance management, training needs, and skills development.
Promote teamwork, accountability, and a respectful workplace workplace.
Planning & Coordination
Liaise with management on project priorities, resourcing, and scheduling.
Coordinate with the Leading Hand to ensure materials, consumables, and equipment are available when required.
Assist with estimating, job planning, and reviewing fabrication methods for efficiency.
Client & Stakeholder Communication
Communicate professionally with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders regarding job progress and technical requirements.
Support site work coordination when workshop personnel are deployed off‑site.
