About the role

Valiant Gold is seeking an experienced Underground Manager to lead the protected and efficient operation of the Comet Underground Mine. Reporting to the Site Senior Executive, the role is accountable for underground production, statutory compliance, contractor performance and cost management. The successful candidate will have solid narrow vein underground gold experience and the ability to translate mine plans into safe, practical execution.

Key responsibilities
Fulfil statutory responsibilities as Underground Manager.
Lead day-to-day underground mining operations and deliver safety, production and development objectives.
Manage the underground mining contractor and monitor performance against operational, cost and quality targets.
Ensure mining activities are executed in accordance with approved plans, schedules and site standards.
Work with Technical Services to optimise dilution, ore recovery and mining outcomes in narrow vein orebodies.
Oversee ventilation, ground control and other critical underground risks.
Ensure compliance with Western Australian mining legislation and site management plans.




Review and validate contractor progress claims using site records, physical measurements and completed work.
Monitor contractor costs, budgets and forecasts, and resolve discrepancies in claimed quantities.
Lead, mentor and develop site operational personnel.

About you
Current Western Australian First Class Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency (essential).
Degree in Mining Engineering or a relevant related discipline.
Demonstrated underground operational leadership experience.
Strong narrow vein underground gold mining and longhole open stoping experience, including uphole and downhole methods.
Proven contractor management, cost control and progress claim validation experience.
Proficiency with the Deswik software suite, including Deswik.CAD, Deswik.Sched, Deswik.UGDB (Underground Drill and Blast).
Strong understanding of underground ventilation and statutory requirements.
Sound understanding of mine planning, drill and blast, ground control and operational risk management.
Robust leadership, communication and decision-making skills.
