About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Consultant Psychiatrist to join our specialist team. This unique role focuses on supporting Australian veterans, first responders, and corporate clients. Your time will be split between clinical care for Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) clients and providing expert independent assessments for Medico-Legal reports.
You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, trauma-informed therapists, and administrative staff who handle all billing, DVA paperwork, and report transcription formatting for you.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care: Provide psychiatric assessment and evidence-based treatment plans for DVA clients presenting with PTSD, complex trauma, depression, and substance use disorders.
Medico-Legal Assessments: Conduct independent psychiatric evaluations and write high-quality reports for statutory schemes (DVA claims, Comcare, work injury, and civil matters).
Cooperative Practice: Work closely with GPs, Open Arms, and veteran support advocates to deliver coordinated care pathways.
Expert Opinions: Determine impairment ratings, work capacity,
and treatment recommendations in compliance with relevant legal and legislative frameworks.

Requirements
Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP).
Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).
Proven experience or a solid interest in trauma-informed care, veteran mental health, or substance use rehabilitation.
Demonstrated experience writing objective, legally robust Medico-Legal reports (or a willingness to undergo specialized training).
Eligibility for a provider number to bill under DVA and private frameworks.
