$53 per hour + Super | 2-month contract with potential extension
Spinifex Recruiting is seeking an experienced Compliance Officer, Environmental Officer, Inspector, or Water/Wastewater professional for an exciting opportunity with our client, Tweed Shire Council.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a background in environmental compliance, inspections, investigations, regulatory services, or wastewater management who enjoys a mix of field work, customer engagement, and technical reporting.
Initially offered as a 2-month contract commencing early to mid-September through to early November, there is a robust possibility of extension and potentially an ongoing opportunity, making this an excellent opportunity to gain experience within Local Government and get your foot in the door with Tweed Shire Council.
About the Role
As the Technical Officer - Liquid Trade Waste, you will play an important role in ensuring businesses across the Tweed Shire are complying with Council requirements relating to the discharge of liquid trade waste into the sewer network.
The role involves a combination of site inspections, compliance assessments, customer engagement, investigations, and technical administration.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct inspections of commercial and industrial premises
Assess compliance with liquid trade waste and environmental requirements
Investigate issues and provide advice to customers and businesses
Review approvals, documentation, and compliance records
Prepare inspection reports and maintain accurate records
Provide guidance and education to customers regarding compliance requirements
Build positive relationships with businesses while ensuring regulatory standards are maintained
About You
We are looking for someone who has experience in a compliance, inspection, environmental, or technical role and is confident working with customers and stakeholders.
You may come from a background in:
Environmental Health / Regulatory Services
Compliance or Investigation roles
Local Government
Water or Wastewater operations
Pollution prevention or monitoring
Trade waste, plumbing, or wastewater systems (highly regarded but not essential)
You will have:
Experience conducting inspections, investigations, compliance assessments, or regulatory activities
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
The ability to interpret legislation, policies, and procedures
Strong attention to detail and reporting skills
The ability to work autonomously and manage your own workload
A current driver's licence and willingness to travel throughout the Tweed Shire
If this position extends into a longer-term opportunity, you may be required to obtain a Certificate IV in Water Industry Operations (Trade Waste) or equivalent accreditation, subject to course availability.
