This is a leadership role for a commercially astute finance professional who wants genuine ownership over a business entering an exciting growth phase. We're partnering exclusively with a privately-owned Melbourne property developer to appoint a Chief Financial Officer into their leadership team.

Our client is an established, founder-led developer with a strong track record delivering projects across Melbourne, built on long-standing joint venture partnerships. Having historically operated as a development business, they've now launched their own construction arm, bringing project delivery in-house and positioning themselves for the next stage of growth.
n
You'll own the finance function for a business moving from a development model into genuine self-delivery. This isn't a role stepping into an established function - you'll be hands-on in building the systems, processes, and controls needed to support that shift, while partnering with the Managing Director and Construction Head on strategy, capital structure, and project funding.

Given the nature of the business, this role requires genuine exposure to construction delivery, not solely a development or investment background.

The business is backed by a strong pipeline of JV-driven projects and is entering its next phase of growth, with an equity pathway on offer for the right person.

About the role
n
n
Own the finance function end to end, from financial control and reporting through to strategic input on capital structure, project funding, and JV arrangements
n
Be hands-on in standing up the systems, processes, and controls needed to support the newly launched construction arm's self-delivery model
n
Partner closely with the Managing Director and Construction Head, giving genuine input into strategic and commercial decisions
n
Bring financial discipline and governance to a business moving from a pure development model into construction delivery
n
Act as a trusted commercial advisor to leadership as the business scales
n

What they're looking for
n
Someone who combines technical finance rigour with genuine commercial awareness, along with:
n
n
Proven CFO or senior Financial Controller experience within a property development or construction business, with genuine exposure to construction delivery (self-delivery or contracting), not solely development or investment
n
Experience standing up finance systems and processes from the ground up, comfortable being hands-on rather than overseeing an established function
n
A track record of operating in privately-owned, JV-driven environments
n
Strong commercial acumen and the confidence to partner with ownership on strategic decisions
n
Experience structuring project and development finance
n
CA/CPA qualification (or equivalent)
n
n
This role suits either an experienced CFO looking for their next opportunity, or a strong Financial Controller ready to step up into their first CFO role.
