Description

RWDI Australia is seeking an energetic and technically capable Mechanical or Electrical Engineer to join our Acoustics, Noise and Vibration team in Sydney.
n
This hands-on role focuses on supporting the preparation, deployment, operation, and ongoing development of RWDI's real-time noise and vibration monitoring systems. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, equipment, and monitoring teams to ensure field devices and online monitoring systems operate reliably and effectively.
n
The position combines fieldwork, electronics, hardware and software troubleshooting, equipment configuration, and technical collaboration. The successful candidate will support monitoring programs ranging from short site visits to multi-year projects in a variety of environments.
n
This opportunity would suit an engineer who enjoys building, configuring, maintaining, and improving technical systems, and who can manage several priorities while working both independently and collaboratively.

Key Responsibilities
n
n
Prepare and maintain the fleet of real-time noise and vibration monitors for field deployment.
n
Support field measurement programs ranging from same-day site visits to multi-year monitoring programs in a variety of settings.
n
Collaborate with global equipment and monitoring teams to optimise system performance.
n
Work closely with the Noise, Vibration and Air Quality engineering teams to support the development and maintenance of monitoring systems.
n
Configure, troubleshoot, and calibrate monitoring equipment, including monitors, sensors, and modems.
n
Take ownership of the existing online monitoring platform, ensuring that the platform operates effectively and integrates with field devices.
n
Support the configuration and troubleshooting of field communications and monitoring devices.
n
Participate in team meetings, technical discussions, brainstorming sessions, and project planning.
n
Manage competing priorities across several concurrent projects while maintaining quality and reliability.
n

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
n
Qualifications and essential requirements
n
n
A degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering, with relevant electronics experience.
n
Ability to work in a variety of physically demanding environments.
n
A valid driver's licence.
n
Good written and verbal communication skills.
n
Ability to work in Australia.
n
Ability to organise work,
manage time carefully, and balance several concurrent projects.
n
Strong collaboration and teamwork skills, together with the ability to complete work independently.
n
Practical problem-solving skills, initiative, and the ability to learn independently.
n

Preferred experience
n
n
Interest or experience in Linux-based operating systems.
n
Interest or experience in low-power microcontroller-based systems.
n
Hands-on assembly skills, including wiring and soldering.
n
Proficiency in one or more programming languages, including C++, C#, Python, or Java.
n
Interest or experience in database management using SQL.
n
Experience configuring, troubleshooting, or maintaining monitoring devices, sensors, modems, or similar technical equipment.
n
Experience supporting field measurement or environmental monitoring programs would be advantageous.
