Our services include alternative high school education, crisis accommodation and housing support, alcohol and other drugs counselling, youth justice programs, life skills and employment pathways, cultural support and community engagement.The RoleWe are seeking a School Counsellor to join our school in Maitland, NSW, working 2 days per week (Tuesdays and Fridays).
This is a rewarding opportunity to support students and their families through the provision of counselling and wellbeing services within a school workplace.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will help young people overcome personal, social and emotional barriers to learning and support positive educational and life outcomes.What you'll doProvide therapeutic counselling and wellbeing support to students and their familiesConduct assessments, develop intervention plans and maintain accurate case notesSupport students experiencing trauma, mental health challenges, behavioural concerns and complex family circumstancesConduct psychometric assessments and prepare reports where requiredCollaborate with families, school staff and external services to support student wellbeingFacilitate individual and group‐based interventions using evidence‐based approachesProvide advice and support to school staff regarding student wellbeing needsPromote child safety and comply with mandatory reporting and child protection requirementsWhat you'll bringBachelor's degree in Counselling or a related discipline (minimum AQF Level 7)Minimum 3 years' experience providing counselling services to young people, preferably within a school, education or community services settingExperience supporting young people experiencing trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety and other complex mental health challengesKnowledge of therapeutic approaches such as CBT, Solution Focused Therapy,
