Hire A Loo

Coolum Beach

We’re looking for someone to take ownership of the daily scheduling of our truck fleet.

Your primary responsibility is straightforward to describe, but takes skill to do well:

Every day, turn the work that needs doing into practical, cost-effective multi-stop runs for our drivers, ready for them when they start the following morning.

Loogistics is a well-established liquid waste business based at Coolum Beach, working predominantly with portable toilets and commercial holding tanks. We operate a mixed fleet of approximately eight trucks and work closely with our related portable toilet hire business, Hire A Loo.

The job

Our drivers don't start each day with predetermined routes or regular delivery rounds. You will decide which jobs belong together, which driver and truck should do them, and the order in which they should be completed.

Each run may contain many service, delivery and pickup jobs across different customer sites. Building those runs is the core of this role.

This is not simply putting addresses into route optimisation software.

Each day you'll balance:

- Which jobs genuinely need to happen today

- Geography and efficient grouping of multiple stops into runs

- The sequence in which those stops should be completed

- Customer commitments and time restrictions

- Different truck capabilities and capacities

- Site access and practical delivery constraints

- Driver workload and available hours

- Urgent jobs and changes during the day

- Kilometres, travel time and operating cost

- Work that can reasonably be moved to another day

You won't always be able to get everything done. Good judgement about what gets done, what doesn't, which jobs belong together and how each run should work is an important part of the job.

You'll work closely with five regular drivers, our yard and customer service teams and our customers. You'll need to build good relationships with drivers and understand the realities they encounter in the field, while still making the decisions necessary to get the work done.

Your first month

We don't expect you to arrive knowing our business.

Your first few weeks will include travelling with our different drivers and learning:

- The services we provide

- Our trucks and their different capabilities

- How portable toilets and equipment are delivered and collected

- Our service areas and common locations

- Difficult sites and access constraints

- Customer expectations and priorities

- The practical issues our drivers encounter

You'll also learn our internally developed scheduling systems and work alongside us while progressively taking responsibility for building the daily runs.

The objective is for you to become the person who owns the schedule — deciding how the day's workload becomes a set of efficient, achievable multi-stop runs — rather than somebody waiting for a driver or manager to determine the route.

What we're looking for

You may currently be called a dispatcher, allocator, scheduler, transport coordinator, service coordinator or operations coordinator.

You don't need to come from the liquid waste or portable toilet industry.

We are particularly interested in people who have personally had responsibility for taking a changing workload and allocating and sequencing that work into multi-stop runs for drivers or field staff.

You will need to be:

- An excellent practical problem solver

- Strong at prioritising competing demands

- Comfortable making decisions when there isn't a perfect answer

- Cost-conscious and alert to unnecessary kilometres and wasted time

- Organised enough to keep track of many moving pieces

- Confident communicating with drivers and customers

- Willing to pick up the phone and resolve missing information

- Calm when vehicles, customers or schedules don't cooperate

- Comfortable using computer-based scheduling systems

- Someone who takes ownership and follows things through

Most importantly, you should genuinely enjoy scheduling and operational problem-solving.

If being handed a messy collection of jobs, drivers,

vehicles and constraints and turning it into a set of efficient multi-stop runs sounds satisfying rather than frustrating, we'd particularly like to hear from you.

Experience that would be useful

Experience scheduling or dispatching in transport would be excellent, but we'd also be interested in relevant experience from areas such as:

- Waste and recycling

- Equipment or plant hire

- Civil construction

- Plumbing or other field services

- Local multi-stop transport

- Traffic management

- Concrete or building supplies

- Service and maintenance fleets

- Major event coordination

A truck licence, forklift ticket or experience with liquid waste would be useful, but none is essential for the right scheduler.

Beyond scheduling

Once you've mastered the core role, you will become involved in our broader operations, including customer service, handling customer calls and emails, performing customer site assessments and pricing jobs by understanding the transport, truck and equipment requirements involved. You will also become closely involved in our major public event quoting and coordination.

What’s in it for you?

- Full-time permanent position based at Coolum Beach

- Extended on-boarding and systems training

- Significant autonomy once you understand the operation

- Direct involvement with drivers, customers and business ownership

- Exposure to internally developed logistics software and technology

- Chance to broaden your responsibilities over time

- A role where the quality of your decisions has a visible effect every day

Interested?

If you've previously been responsible for building multi-stop daily runs, tell us briefly what you were scheduling — how many drivers or vehicles, approximately how many stops or jobs, and how you decided which jobs went onto each run.

We'd particularly like to hear about a situation where there was more work than could realistically be completed and you had to decide what happened and what didn't.

See more about us at Loogistics and Hire A Loo.

This position is with Loogistics Pty Ltd. Hire A Loo is a related company under the same ownership.
