There comes a point in your Technology career where the next challenge isn't simply about a bigger team or another transformation.

It's about having greater scope, complexity and the autonomy to make a meaningful impact.

You may already be a Head of Technology within an operational business and be looking for that next challenge.

Equally, you may lead Applications, Business Systems or a similarly broad Technology function within a larger organisation and be ready for wider end-to-end accountability.

Both backgrounds could work particularly well here.

You'll lead Technology across a growing Australian group spanning manufacturing, distribution and retail. Its largest operating business generates approximately 500 million in revenue, with operations across Australia.

Significant investment has already been made in modernising the technology environment. You're not walking into something broken, but there is plenty still to do.

Why This Role Exists

The organisation has deliberately simplified its immediate technology priorities.

Rather than trying to progress too many initiatives simultaneously, the focus is on delivering what's already underway, strengthening relationships with key stakeholders and establishing a pragmatic technology model for what comes next.

This isn't about reducing ambition. It's about sequencing it.

The Role

You'll lead a team of around 5–6 across applications, data, cloud and technology support, working alongside shared services across cybersecurity, networks and end-user computing.

A significant Business Central transformation is already underway across the organisation's core operating business, with experienced project leadership remaining through the initial go-lives.

Rather than taking over the implementation, you'll work closely with the project team,



understand the environment and ensure knowledge and accountability progressively transition into the permanent Technology function.

But this role is much broader than ERP.

You'll spend time with stakeholders across the organisation understanding what happens on the factory floor, how products move through the supply chain, how sales teams operate, where employees lose time and where Technology can make things work better.

Being hands-on here doesn't mean being the person configuring every platform.

It means being hands-on with the business.

A Different Kind of Technology Environment

This is an entrepreneurial and decentralised organisation.

General Managers have meaningful autonomy, so your ability to build relationships and influence will matter more than trying to control everything centrally.

You'll also find people across the organisation already experimenting with dashboards, applications, workflow automation and AI-assisted tools.

The expectation isn't to shut that down. It's to understand what's happening, introduce sensible guardrails and help turn good ideas into sustainable capability.

Looking Ahead

Deliver what's important now and the opportunity broadens considerably.

There is future potential across automation, data, digital, AI and further modernisation of the operational setting. The organisation is also considering acquisitions, potentially creating additional technology responsibilities across due diligence, integration and scalable platforms.

None of that is being positioned as the immediate job.

The opportunity is to establish credibility against today's priorities and then help determine where Technology should go next.

For the right person, the scope of the role could also grow over time.



That progression isn't guaranteed, but there is genuine potential for a broader technology leadership mandate as the organisation grows.

What You'll Bring

Your current title matters less than the breadth of your experience and the environment you've operated in.

Deep manufacturing experience isn't essential. What does matter is experience in businesses where physical goods move, whether that's manufacturing, distribution, logistics, wholesale, retail, building products or a similar environment.

You'll bring broad exposure across enterprise applications, ERP, data and digital, alongside strong commercial judgement and credibility with senior stakeholders.

You'll have experience leading internal teams and external partners, with enough technical depth to ask the right questions without needing to be the deepest technical specialist in the room.

Most importantly, you'll be curious about how the organisation actually works and comfortable spending time with the people closest to its operations.

Location

The role is based near Blacktown in Western Sydney, with a strong onsite presence expected, particularly during the first six months. There is reasonable flexibility when needed, but this isn't designed around a permanent work-from-home model.

Sydney is preferred, although an exceptional Brisbane-based candidate could also be considered. This would involve regular travel to Sydney, likely several days each month and potentially more during the initial period.
