Ready to lead a practice, not just a caseload?

Onyx Legal is a boutique corporate and commercial law firm in North Lakes, and we're looking for an experienced Senior Lawyer to take the reins of our Corporate & Commercial practice team. This isn't a role where you'll get lost in the machine — you'll have real ownership, a genuine say in how the team works, and a direct line to our Principal.

We've spent the last while rebuilding our firm culture from the ground up, because we believe good lawyers do their best work when they're trusted, supported, and not burnt out. Here's what that looks like day to day:

About the role

You’ll manage a varied caseload of corporate and commercial matters — think business transactions,



corporate structuring, and commercial contracts — with some crossover into intellectual property and employment law. You’ll be the senior point of contact for a number of our existing clients, and you’ll supervise and mentor a small team of lawyers and paralegals along the way. You’ll report directly to our Principal, with real visibility and influence over how the practice runs.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for someone who is:

You are diligent, reliable, and passionate about helping business owners gain confidence.
- Approachable – You lack excessive ego and are more interested in the success of our clients and the team than in personal spotlight. You readily share credit, appreciate the contributions of colleagues, admit when you don’t know something, and are genuinely open to giving and receiving feedback and learning from others. You put the needs of clients and the firm above self-interest.




- Practical – You think outside the box and look for solutions that will work in the businesses of our clients. You have high emotional intelligence and common sense about working with people. You read situations and interpersonal dynamics well and build trust quickly. You work collaboratively and contribute positively to our team dynamic.

- Admitted as a legal practitioner in Australia (current QLD, or mutually recognised, practising certificate).
- 5–8 years’ post-qualification experience in corporate and commercial law.
- Comfortable running your own caseload and confident advising clients directly.
- Some experience supervising, mentoring or managing junior lawyers or paralegals.
- A cooperative, people-first mindset — you’ll help set the tone for the team, not just fill a seat.
- Bonus points for exposure to intellectual property or employment law, experience in a small-to-medium firm, or a small client base.
