Job Description
Gridsight is a rapidly growing Grid/CleanTech startup on a mission to accelerate global electrification and decarbonisation. We are building a vertical SaaS platform for electricity utilities, enabling them to modernise grid operations and unlock transformational flexibility capabilities such as dynamic operating envelopes and versatile interconnections. Having recently raised our Series A funding from Airtree Ventures, Energy Transition Ventures and Area VC, we are poised for rapid growth and are seeking talented individuals to join us on our mission.
n
Flex is Gridsight's DER orchestration product: dynamic operating envelopes, emergency backstop, flexible exports, and battery orchestration. It's how utilities actively manage millions of solar systems, batteries, and EVs in near-real time, and it sits on top of the power flow and optimisation engine and services built by our grid modelling team.
n
We're standing up a dedicated Flex product team to turn that engine into a product utilities can run themselves. We're looking for a software engineer to cover the full stack: backend services, working with the data models that feed them, and the web-facing product surface where utilities see and operate their flexible resources.
n
On any given week you might be building a backend service, shaping a data model, or shipping UI. You won't be deep in the power flow maths, but you'll be the engineer who makes its outputs usable, observable, and operable in production.
n
What You'll Do
n
n
- Build and ship product features across the Flex stack: backend services, data models, and web UI
n
- Own features end-to-end, from understanding the problem through to shipping and iterating in production
n
- Build the product surface that lets utilities and internal teams self-serve: configuration, operational visibility, and reporting
n
- Work with the data models and services that feed Flex products
n
- Build the operational tooling and monitoring that keeps Flex deployments healthy across a growing customer base
n
- Collaborate with the grid modelling team to integrate power flow and optimisation outputs into product workflows
n
- Leverage AI-assisted development tooling to accelerate delivery and raise the bar on what a small team can ship
n
- Contribute to engineering culture: code quality, testing, observability, and knowledge sharing
n
n
What You'll Bring
n
n
- 3-6+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of shipping and running production systems
n
- Strong in at least one of backend, data, or frontend, and comfortable working across all three
n
- Experience shipping user-facing product features in production
n
- Strong engineering fundamentals: clean architecture, testing practices, code review, CI/CD - in service of shipping things that matter
n
- Fluency in the use of AI-assisted development tools - you're already using agentic coding tools, LLM-assisted workflows, or similar to accelerate your work
n
- Strong ownership and a bias to action - you take things from idea to working software without waiting to be told
n
n
What Would Set You Apart
n
n
- Experience in energy, utilities, or infrastructure technology
n
- Experience turning models, optimisation, or analytics outputs into production product features
n
- Frontend development experience with modern frameworks (React or similar)
n
- Data engineering fundamentals: pipelines, orchestration, warehouse internals
n
- Experience building LLM-integrated product features in production
n
n
What We Offer
n
n
- Competitive salary. We hold high expectations, but pay accordingly.
n
- Meaningful ESOP so you share in the growth of Gridsight.
n
- $2,500 WFH allowance, $2,500 health and wellness allowance, bi-annual in person working weeks, and lunch is on us when you're in office.
n
- Work how you like. Fully remote, hybrid or in office with a fresh, new head office in Sydney and satellite spaces in Melbourne, Brisbane and Hobart.
