Position Information
The NSW Department of Education provides, funds and regulates education services for NSW children from early childhood to secondary school, delivering world-class education through its public schools and providing funding support to non-government schools. We employ, develop and support teachers, leaders and other staff to deliver the best outcomes for students and to advance the wellbeing of Aboriginal people.
About the Role
School Learning Support Officers provides support for children with identified diverse learning needs including disability in classrooms and other learning environments under the direction and supervision of a teacher to support the achievement of educational outcomes. This support includes student welfare, health and wellbeing activities as required. In addition, School Learning Support Officers may provide specific support for children in the following streams or settings: preschool, vision support, hearing support, and bilingual. Student Learning Support Officers working in these streams/settings have specific additional duties, in addition to the general duties for School Learning Support Officers that are required to be performed.
Essential Requirements
- On appointment must be working towards or hold an Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) approved Certificate III in Children’s Services or Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.
- Working with Children Check Clearance
- Completion of mandatory training required by the Department of Education and a willingness to undertake first aid training relevant to the School Learning Support Officer role.
- Administration of Medications – training to be provided based on child’s needs.
- Health support training to be provided based on student needs (subject to transition provisions).
Staff undertaking roles in preschools will be required to demonstrate suitability and ongoing compliance with the Children (Education and Care Services) National Law (NSW) and Education and Care Services National Regulations (NSW), and NSW Department of Education policies and practices as implemented for public preschools. Leppington Public School is a rapidly growing and highly diverse school community located within the Camden Valley Way Growth Corridor. The school currently serves over 600 students, with approximately 80% of students from Language Backgrounds Other Than English and 3% identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
Leppington Public School, alongside Leppington Public Preschool (due to open in 2027), is committed to fostering a collaborative, inclusive and future-focused learning culture where staff, children, students and families work in partnership to improve outcomes for every learner. Teaching and learning programs are underpinned by evidence-informed practice, differentiated instruction, inclusive wellbeing supports and strong community partnerships to ensure every child is known, valued and cared for. Staff engage in high-impact professional learning and team-oriented inquiry processes to strengthen data-informed practice and continuous improvement from early childhood through to primary education.
The school is currently undergoing significant capital works, including the construction of a new hall, public preschool and 24 additional learning spaces to support rapid enrolment growth and contemporary learning opportunities.
Leppington Public School works closely with neighbouring public schools and the new local public high school opening in 2027 to strengthen transition pathways and create a connected Preschool to Year 12 public education pathway for children and families across the Leppington and Denham Court communities.

- 3. Commitment to protecting and promoting the safety, wellbeing and rights of all children.
- 4. Ability to work with young children.
- 5. Awareness of the needs of young children.
- 6. Effective communication skills.
Conditions
Please note if you are 'working towards' an Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) approved Certificate III in Children’s Services or Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care, you will be appointed on a temporary basis until completion of the approved qualification. Failure to complete within twelve (12) months from your entry on duty date, will result in cessation of the temporary employment.

It is anticipated that this position will commence Day 1 Term 4 2026.
