Position Title: Head of Learning Area Design & Technology

Commencement Date: 1 January 2027

Role Overview:

We are seeking an inspiring and experienced Head of Learning Area Design and Technology to join our Middle Leadership Team in an ongoing full-time position commencing 1 January 2027.

The successful applicant will be an outstanding educator with the capacity to teach Design and Technology across a range of year levels, including senior secondary courses and specialist pathways within Design and Technology. The ability to teach metals is desirable but not essential. More importantly, they will be a collaborative, innovative and visionary leader who can drive excellence in teaching and learning across the Design and Technology Learning Area. The successful applicant will foster a culture of creativity, innovation and continuous improvement, ensuring students are engaged in contemporary, future-focused learning experiences that develop critical thinking, problem-solving and practical skills for an ever-evolving world.

Responsibilities include:

- Supporting students in accessing curriculum content and classroom activities
- Assisting with the implementation of individualised education plans and learning strategies
- Encouraging student engagement, independence and confidence
- Contributing to pastoral care and co-curricular programs
- Collaborating with staff to support student wellbeing and holistic development

Located in Butler, only a 25 minute drive from the Perth CBD and blessed with excellent

transport links, Irene McCormack Catholic College is a vibrant Catholic secondary

school serving students from Years 7 to 12.

Leadership and Management

- Participate as an active member of the College Middle Leadership Team, contributing to the strategic, pastoral and educational direction of Irene McCormack Catholic College.
- Provide strong and effective leadership of the Design and Technology Learning Area, ensuring that College expectations, priorities and accountabilities are clearly communicated and understood by all team members.
- Demonstrate collaborative leadership by developing, motivating and inspiring staff to achieve excellence in teaching, learning and student outcomes.
- Support and mentor teachers within the Learning Area to effectively manage curriculum planning, assessment, student achievement and professional responsibilities.
- Foster a culture of professional learning by encouraging staff participation in professional development and facilitating opportunities to enhance pedagogical and curriculum expertise.
- Seek, respond to and act upon feedback to promote continuous skilled growth and improvement within the Learning Area.
- Recognise and celebrate the achievements of students and staff, promoting a culture of high expectations and success.
- Participate in staff performance and development processes, ensuring fairness, accountability, professional growth and alignment with College goals.
- Work collaboratively with College leadership to implement strategic initiatives that support academic excellence, student wellbeing and continuous school improvement.




- Promote a positive and collegial team environment that reflects the College values.

Curriculum Leadership and Development

- Lead the development, implementation and review of the Design and Technology curriculum across Years 7-12, ensuring alignment with the Western Australian Curriculum and School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) requirements.
- Ensure curriculum consistency, innovation and high-quality learning experiences across all Design and Technology courses, including Foundation, General and ATAR pathways.
- Maintain a contemporary understanding of developments in Design and Technology education, curriculum innovation, assessment practices and evidence-based teaching strategies.
- Lead the implementation of the College's vision for learning through the promotion of effective instructional practices and high-impact teaching strategies.
- Oversee the development, moderation and review of student assessments, ensuring compliance with College and SCSA policies and procedures.
- Analyse student achievement data, including NAPLAN, OLNA, ATAR and internal assessment data, and lead evidence-based improvement strategies to enhance student outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with staff to identify and support students requiring intervention, extension and enrichment opportunities.
- Ensure that curriculum, assessment and reporting processes are communicated clearly and effectively to students, staff and parents.
- Promote excellence in Design and Technology education by fostering curiosity, critical thinking, problem-solving skills and a growth mindset among students.
- Lead strategic planning and future-focused initiatives within the Design and Technology Learning Area to ensure continued growth, innovation and academic success.

- Support and actively promote the Catholic ethos, values and mission of Irene McCormack Catholic College.
- Model and encourage behaviours that reflect the College values.
- Contribute to the faith life of the College through participation in liturgies, retreats, community celebrations and other College events.
