Retail Energy Operations Specialist / Automation Specialist – Energy Retail (Energy Retail Industry Experience a MUST)
Melbourne Eastern Suburbs, VIC | Hybrid – 3 days in office
Up to $80K–$120K package + Max $15K per annum in BONUS
We’re looking for an Energy Retail Operations / Automation Specialist who understands operational processes and is excited about taking automation beyond traditional workflows and into AI-driven and agentic solutions.
This is a hands‑on opportunity to join a growing organisation where automation and emerging AI technologies are becoming increasingly important to the way operational processes are designed and delivered.
What you’ll be doing
Initially, you’ll combine energy retail operations with automation, developing a strong understanding of business processes, systems and regulatory requirements before progressively moving towards a stronger automation and AI focus.
You’ll:
- Analyse operational processes and identify opportunities to automate repetitive and manual work.
- Design, build and continuously improve intelligent workflows and automations.
- Work with AI tools and models to support decision‑making and move beyond traditional rule‑based automation.
- Identify where manual decision‑making creates bottlenecks and explore how AI can streamline these processes.
- Document processes, automation logic, dependencies and outcomes.
- Work closely with Technology, Product, Development and Operations teams.
- Measure automation performance, efficiency gains and adoption.
- Contribute to the development of smarter operational systems and processes.
What we’re looking for
We’re not overly focused on job titles or specific qualifications. We’re looking for someone who is curious, analytical, commercially minded and genuinely interested in how automation and AI can transform business operations.
Ideally, you’ll have
- Experience in energy retail, utilities, telecommunications, water, gas or another regulated environment.
- Metering experience in an energy retail a BONUS
- An understanding of energy retail processes and regulatory requirements.
- Practical exposure to automation or workflow technologies.
- A strong interest in AI and emerging agentic AI capabilities.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent Excel and data skills; Python and SQL are highly desirable.
- The ability to quickly understand unfamiliar systems and develop solutions.
- A mindset focused on experimentation, continuous improvement and finding smarter ways of working.
