Role Summary

We are seeking Tax Associate with practical experience preparing Australian income tax returns, financial statements and supporting workpapers. The successful candidate must be accurate, organised and able to identify missing information rather than make unsupported assumptions.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare draft Australian income tax returns for individuals, sole traders, companies, trusts and partnerships.
- Prepare complete and properly referenced tax workpapers for review by an Australian registered tax agent.
- Review ATO pre-fill information and reconcile salary, interest, dividends, managed funds and other income.
- Prepare rental property schedules, depreciation claims, work-related deductions and sole-trader business schedules.
- Assist with capital gains tax calculations, share transactions and property disposals.
- Prepare year-end journals, trial balance reconciliations and draft financial statements.
- Assist with company tax reconciliations, trust distribution workpapers and Division 7A calculations.
- Prepare draft BAS and IAS workpapers, including GST and PAYG reconciliations.
- Review client records and prepare clear queries for missing or inconsistent information.
- Maintain accurate workflow notes, checklists and supporting documents.
- Research issues using current ATO guidance and escape technical matters for review.
- Meet agreed turnaround times while maintaining accuracy and skilled standards.
- Protect client information and comply with confidentiality, privacy and information-security procedures.

Required Skills and Experience

- Bachelor's or master's degree in Accounting, Commerce, Finance or a related field.
- At least one year of Australian taxation or accounting experience within a KPO,



outsourcing firm or Australian accounting practice.
- Working knowledge of Australian individual and small-business taxation.
- Experience preparing Australian tax returns and year-end workpapers.
- Practical experience with Xero and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with Xero Tax or similar Australian tax software is highly desirable.
- Understanding of GST, BAS, IAS, CGT, depreciation and basic Division 7A principles.
- Strong written and spoken English.
- High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple client jobs.
- Willingness to follow documented procedures and accept technical review feedback.

Preferred Experience

- CA Inter, CA finalist, CPA pathway or similar professional studies.
- Experience with TaxDome or another accounting practice-management system.
- Experience preparing company, trust and partnership returns.
- Direct communication experience with Australian accountants or clients.

Important Scope

The Tax Associate will prepare returns, calculations and workpapers for review. Final tax advice, approval and lodgement will remain under the supervision and control of an Australian registered tax agent.

- Accuracy and completeness of workpapers.
- Jobs completed within agreed deadlines.
- Level of review adjustments and avoidable rework.
- Quality of client queries and file notes.
- Compliance with checklists, procedures and data-security requirements.
