The Position

The QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute seeks a collegiate and inspiring fundraising leader to build on significant momentum and lead the Institute’s fundraising function into its next phase of growth, maturity and impact. The Head of Fundraising will play a central role in securing the philanthropic support that enables QIMR Berghofer’s vital research to continue and expand.

Reporting to the General Manager, Engagement and Advancement and leading a team of eleven, the Head of Fundraising will provide strategic and hands-on leadership across major gifts, trusts and foundations, individual giving, gifts in wills, corporate relationships, community fundraising and enabling data capability. The role will develop and deliver a multi-year fundraising strategy, grow and diversify philanthropic income, personally engage major donors and priority supporters. Further, it will be essential to strengthen stewardship and pipeline performance, advance initiatives including endowment and endowed chair programs and improve the use of technology platforms, (Raiser’s Edge) to support data-informed decision-making and coordinated donor engagement.

The ideal candidate will bring significant senior-level fundraising experience, with demonstrated success in growing and diversifying income and leading managers, specialists or multidisciplinary teams. Executive presence,



sound judgement and the ability to build trust with major philanthropists, researchers, senior executives and governance stakeholders will be essential. The successful candidate will combine strategic and commercial judgement with disciplined execution, strong communication and influencing skills, high-level networking capability, data and CRM literacy, underpinned with unquestionable integrity. Whilst experience in medical research, health, higher education or another complex mission-led organisation will be valued, candidates will need to demonstrate an authentic connection to QIMR Berghofer’s purpose and a willingness to remain close to donors, people, systems and delivery.
