Cochlear has an chance for a fulltime Embedded Software Engineering Manager based in our Sydney, Macquarie Park office. In this leadership role, you will be accountable for the delivery, quality, and technical execution of a squad responsible for developing embedded software features that support Cochlear's industry‑leading hearing solutions. You'll combine deep technical expertise with strong people leadership, ensuring your team delivers highly reliable products while continuing to build capability for the future. Working closely with Architects, Systems Engineers, Program Managers, Quality teams, and Product stakeholders, you'll help shape the technical direction of our embedded software platform while creating an environment where engineers can do their best work.

Responsibilities

- Leading a squad of embedded software engineers to deliver high-quality software solutions.
- Driving technical execution, design reviews and engineering decision‑making.
- Coaching, mentoring and developing engineers to maximise team capability and engagement.
- Partnering with architecture, systems and delivery teams to align technical and business priorities.
- Ensuring compliance with software development processes and quality standards.




- Driving continuous improvement across engineering practices, delivery processes and technical excellence.

About you

- Essential 5+ years' experience working within embedded software development environments.
- Experience leading engineering teams responsible for software design, implementation and delivery.
- Strong understanding of embedded software development, software architecture and system design.
- Proven experience operating within Agile software development environments.
- Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and develop engineering talent.
- Experience influencing outcomes across cross‑functional and matrixed teams.
- Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to balance technical excellence, delivery commitments and long‑term strategy.
- Ideal Experience working within regulated industries such as medical devices, aerospace, automotive or defence.
- Understanding of IEC 62304, ISO 14971 and software risk management practices.
- Experience contributing to software architecture and platform strategy.
- Experience leading design reviews and resolving complex technical challenges.
- Knowledge of embedded software development on resource‑constrained systems.
- Experience building succession plans and developing future engineering leaders.
