Rowing Australia are recruiting a Data Scientist / Senior Data Scientist to lead and evolve their performance intelligence capability, applying data science, analytics and technology directly within an Olympic and Paralympic high-performance environment .
Embedded within Rowing Australia’s Daily Performance Environment , the successful candidate will develop the data systems, analytics and decision-support tools used to inform athlete and crew performance.
Working alongside coaches, sport science, sports medicine and performance staff, the role will translate complex datasets into practical insights while helping shape the organisation’s wider High Performance Data Strategy .
Appointment at Senior Data Scientist level will include additional responsibility for strategic projects, partnerships, technical leadership and capability development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of Rowing Australia’s High Performance Data Strategy .
- Design and improve data systems, pipelines, dashboards and reporting tools.
- Develop advanced analytics, statistical models and machine-learning solutions .
- Lead athlete and crew performance analysis, benchmarking and predictive modelling.
- Translate complex data into practical, actionable insights for coaches and performance staff.
- Explore applications of AI and emerging technologies within performance intelligence.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners on data capability,
governance and innovation.
- At Senior level, lead national strategic projects and develop data capability across the High Performance system.
What They're Looking For
- Degree or higher qualification in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Economics or a related discipline.
- Strong experience with SQL and Python .
- Experience with platforms such as Snowflake or SQL Server .
- Experience developing and evaluating statistical and machine-learning models.
- Experience using GitLab or GitHub .
- Robust data visualisation and storytelling capability.
- Ability to communicate complex analytical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong collaboration and stakeholder-management skills.
- Interest in or understanding of high-performance sport .
For appointment at Senior level, experience leading data professionals and providing senior technical advice will be particularly relevant.
