TheHead of Department is a key member of the Teaching and Learning Team and is responsible for leading curriculum delivery, teaching quality, student achievement and staff practice within their department. The role provides clear educational leadership, supports high standards of professional practice and ensures departmental operations align with College priorities, NSW curriculum requirements, NESA expectations and Newcastle Anglican values.

Experience

- Proven experience in a middle or senior leadership role within a NSW school context, preferably as a Head of Department, Faculty Coordinator or similar curriculum leadership position.
- Demonstrated capacity to lead a teaching team, including mentoring staff, supporting professional growth, managing performance matters and fostering a collaborative, accountable and improvement-focused department culture.
- Solid knowledge of NSW curriculum requirements, NESA syllabuses, assessment, reporting and compliance obligations relevant to the department area.




- Experience leading curriculum planning, assessment moderation, data-informed teaching practice and quality assurance processes to improve student learning outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to use student achievement, wellbeing and engagement data to identify priorities, inform interventions and support consistent teaching and learning practice across the department.
- Experience managing departmental operations, including resource allocation, budget awareness, staffing considerations, excursions, risk management and day-to-day administrative processes.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, parents and carers, including managing complex or sensitive matters with professionalism, clarity and sound judgement.
- High proficiency in using digital platforms and school systems to support teaching, learning, reporting, communication and department administration.
- Relevant teaching qualifications and accreditations in NSW
- Postgraduate qualifications in Educational Leadership, Curriculum, Pedagogy or a relevant discipline are desirable
- First aid certification
- NSW Working with Children Check
- Criminal History Check (Newcastle Anglican will consider the relevance of any reported outcomes)
