DIESEL MECHANIC & TRUCK DRIVER

DIESEL MOTOR MECHANIC

Freight Lines Group is seeking an experienced Diesel Motor Mechanic to inspect, diagnose, service and repair its diesel-powered trucks and heavy commercial vehicles. The successful applicant will maintain diesel engines and related mechanical systems, complete scheduled and preventative maintenance, respond to breakdowns and ensure vehicles remain safe, reliable and roadworthy.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Diagnostics and Repairs

- Inspect trucks and diagnose mechanical, electrical and operational faults.
- Use diagnostic equipment, scan tools, service manuals and technical specifications.
- Repair or replace diesel engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials and fuel-system components.
- Service and repair steering, suspension, braking, cooling, lubrication and exhaust systems.
- Dismantle, inspect, repair, adjust and reassemble mechanical components.
- Identify abnormal noises, leaks, overheating, loss of power and other performance issues.

Servicing and Preventative Maintenance

- Complete scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance.
- Perform oil and filter changes, lubrication services and fluid checks.
- Inspect brakes, steering, suspension, driveline, batteries and other safety-critical components.
- Identify worn or damaged parts and recommend repair or replacement.
- Help minimise breakdowns and vehicle downtime.

Testing and Quality Control

- Test and adjust repaired engines and mechanical components.
- Conduct operational or road tests where authorised.
- Check vehicles for leaks, warning indicators, abnormal noises and other faults.
- Complete final inspections before vehicles are returned to service.
- Report unresolved or additional repair requirements to management.

Breakdown and Workshop Duties

- Attend vehicle breakdowns and complete secure roadside repairs where practicable.
- Arrange vehicle recovery when repairs cannot be completed safely on-site.
- Maintain accurate job cards, inspection reports and service records.
- Identify and request required parts, materials and consumables.
- Keep tools, equipment and workshop areas clean, organised and serviceable.

Workplace Health and Safety

- Follow workplace safety policies and safe operating procedures.




- Use appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Safely operate hoists, jacks, lifting equipment, tools and workshop machinery.
- Secure and isolate vehicles before commencing repairs.
- Report hazards, defective equipment and unsafe working conditions.

Qualifications and Experience

- Relevant Certificate III or Certificate IV automotive mechanical qualification, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Experience maintaining and repairing diesel engines and heavy commercial vehicles.
- Current driver's licence appropriate to the duties.
- Any registration, licence or certification required in Western Australia.
- Experience working with heavy-vehicle diagnostic equipment is preferred.

Required Technical Skills

- Strong diesel-engine and heavy-vehicle mechanical knowledge.
- Effective diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
- Knowledge of transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension and fuel systems.
- Ability to use electronic diagnostic and mechanical testing equipment.
- Ability to interpret fault codes, service manuals and technical diagrams.
- Competence in dismantling, repairing and reassembling mechanical components.
- Accurate service and repair record-keeping.

TRUCK DRIVER

Position Summary

Freight Lines Group is seeking an experienced Truck Driver to transport bulky goods and general freight on local, regional and long-distance routes. The successful applicant will operate heavy vehicles, inspect equipment, secure loads, complete delivery records and comply with road safety, fatigue-management and workplace safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

Driving and Freight Transportation

- Operate heavy rigid,



combination or multi-combination vehicles as authorised.
- Collect and deliver freight safely and within scheduled timeframes.
- Follow approved routes, delivery instructions and road restrictions.
- Report delays, breakdowns and delivery issues to management.

Loading and Load Restraint

- Position vehicles safely for loading and unloading.
- Check freight quantities, condition, weight and distribution.
- Secure and protect loads using approved restraint equipment.
- Monitor loading and report damage or discrepancies.

Vehicle Safety and Maintenance

- Complete pre-start and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Check tyres, brakes, lights, fluids, couplings and safety equipment.
- Report faults, damage and maintenance requirements promptly.
- Keep trucks, trailers and equipment clean and presentable.

Documentation and Compliance

- Check manifests, consignment notes and delivery instructions.
- Maintain accurate work diaries, delivery and inspection records.
- Comply with road rules, fatigue-management, mass and load-restraint requirements.
- Report fatigue, illness or other conditions affecting safe driving.

Customer Service and Safety

- Communicate professionally with customers, suppliers and colleagues.
- Follow site safety, access and personal protective equipment requirements.
- Safely couple and uncouple trailers.
- Report hazards, incidents and near misses immediately.

Qualifications and Experience

- Current Australian HR, HC or MC driver's licence, as required.
- Relevant heavy-vehicle driving and freight transport experience.
- Safe driving history.
- Knowledge of fatigue management, load restraint and road safety.
- Ability to meet applicable medical, induction and licensing requirements.

Required Skills and Knowledge

- Safe operation and manoeuvring of heavy vehicles.
- Ability to inspect vehicles, secure loads and identify faults.
- Route planning and navigation skills.
- Accurate record-keeping and use of electronic transport systems.
- Good communication, customer-service and time-management skills.
