Te Haeata/The Opportunity
Are you ready to lead the next phase of organisational development at the Ministry of Justice?
We're looking for an experienced organisational development leader who can connect strategic thinking with practical delivery.
You'll influence senior leaders and lead an organisational development programme that directly supports the Ministry's priorities. Over the next year you'll lead a team to strengthen the Ministry's approach to leadership, embed coaching and development in everyday work, and enhance employee experience. You'll help shape our emerging talent work and take the lead on the development of our People Strategy, setting a clear direction for how the Ministry leads, develops and supports its people.
Reporting to the Director Culture and Capability, you'll lead a team of four and contribute as a member of the Culture and Capability management team. You'll build trusted relationships across People Experience and with senior leaders, helping translate organisational priorities into tangible action.
Your work will help build the organisational capability needed to deliver a justice system that better serves all New Zealanders.
You Will
- Lead the development and refresh of the Ministry's People Strategy and associated sub-strategies.
- Strengthen the Ministry's leadership system, connecting leadership expectations, development and everyday practice.
- Advance coaching and development approaches that help leaders and kaimahi learn and develop through their work.
- Continue to enhance our approach to employee experience and data, including our Working for Justice Survey, turning employee insights into meaningful action.
- Shape and progress our emerging talent work in line with the Ministry's priorities and future needs.
- Guide the team to design and deliver evidence-informed OD work with clear outcomes.
- Lead and develop a capable, high-performing team that delivers on its commitments and builds credibility through the quality and impact of its work.
- Influence senior leaders and leadership teams through coaching and strategic advice.
Ō Pūkenga/Skills And Experience To be successful in this role, we are looking for you to have:
- Substantial experience diagnosing organisational needs and leading the design, delivery and evaluation of organisational development strategies and initiatives.
- Expertise in leadership development, coaching and development, employee experience and/or talent development.
- Ability to use research, workforce data and employee insights to identify priorities, inform interventions and assess their impact.
- Proven ability to lead and develop a specialist team, set clear priorities and deliver through others.
- Ability to build relationships with senior leaders and key stakeholders, providing constructive challenge and translating strategy into practical action.
- Demonstrated commitment to Māori Crown Relations and te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Utu ā-tau/Salary The salary band for this role is $149,972 - $206,570 with the appointing salary for this role likely to be between $148,972 and $192,782, based on skills and experience.
