The Opportunity

Dambimangari Aboriginal Corporation (DAC) is seeking an experienced and capable leader to coordinate a team of Indigenous Rangers delivering conservation, land management and cultural programs across the remote Dambimangari Indigenous Protected Area and Lalang-Gaddam Marine Park.

Working closely with the Healthy Country Manager, Marine Operations Officer, Traditional Owners and program partners, you'll lead on-Country operations, staff development and annual work plan delivery in line with the Dambimangari Healthy Country Plan.

The Role

In this role, you will coordinate delivery of the annual Ranger work plan, including:

- Ranger operations & on-Country delivery - Manage work planning, budgets, staffing, logistics and field delivery across fire management, feral animal and weed control, threatened species programs, cultural activities, marine patrols, visitor education and infrastructure management.
- Leadership, mentoring & workforce development - Provide day-to-day supervision, team meetings, mentoring, recruitment and performance support. Coordinate accredited training and build pathways for Rangers to progress into specialist and senior roles.
- Traditional Owner & stakeholder engagement - Maintain strong relationships with Traditional Owners and work collaboratively with the Healthy Country Committee, government, industry, environmental organisations and training providers.
- Planning, reporting & administration - Coordinate work plans, purchasing, timesheets, travel allowances, budgets and accurate reporting for funding bodies, audit and program partners.
- Safety, logistics & asset management - Support safe work systems and maintain operational readiness of vehicles, vessels, trailers, equipment, small machinery and remote infrastructure.

About you

- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal people in remote Australia, preferably in conservation, land management or community development.
- Experience delivering conservation and land management programs, including fire, weeds, feral animals, threatened species, cultural programs, infrastructure or asset management.




- Proven experience supervising teams, planning work, engaging staff and supporting performance in a dynamic environment.
- Strong project coordination, logistics and problem-solving skills, preferably in remote settings.
- Experience managing vehicles, vessels, trailers, equipment or small machinery.
- Sound computer literacy and experience with budgets, work plans, purchasing and reporting.
- Practical bush skills and the ability to participate in remote on-Country fieldwork.

Qualifications & essential requirements

- Tertiary qualification in natural resource management, environmental science or another relevant discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Current manual driver's Licence.
- Ability to commit to at least five remote on-Country trips of approximately 3 to 10 days during the dry season from April to October.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Working with Children Check, National Police Clearance and First Aid Certificate.
- Physical fitness to work in extremely remote, hot and humid Kimberley conditions. A pre-employment medical may be required.

Desirable

- Experience in marine operations, including handling and maintaining vessels up to 12 metres.
- AMSA Coxswain Grade 2 Near Coastal or other relevant marine qualifications.
- MR truck licence.
- Fire management experience, including aerial, prescribed and suppression activities.
- Relevant trade or technical skills such as machinery, construction, GIS, biodiversity, data collection, plant and animal identification or small engines.

We all share a unique body of beliefs and cultural practices we maintain strong connections to our land through our Law, Culture, songs and stories. We represent and work for the Dambimangari Traditional Owners, guided by Law and Culture.
