About Ranges Alarms

Ranges Alarms has been operating since 2014, providing professional electronic security solutions across Melbourne’s south-east, Bayside, Mornington Peninsula and Gippsland.

We specialise in the installation and maintenance of:

- CCTV Systems

- Intruder Alarm Systems

- Access Control

- Integrated Security Systems

Our work includes commercial premises, businesses, factories, storage facilities, new homes and selected residential projects. Some of our customers include Puffing Billy Railway, Country Fire Authority, McDonalds and GJ Gardner Homes just to name a few.

We are a small, established team and take a fairly simple approach to work: do a great job, look after our customers, support each other and enjoy coming to work.

Due to continued growth, we are now adding another experienced Security Technician to our team.

The Role

This is a hands-on Security Technician position covering the installation, commissioning, servicing and maintenance of CCTV, alarm and access control systems.

You’ll work across a variety of projects including commercial properties, factories, storage facilities, businesses, new homes and residential installations.

You’ll be trusted to manage your jobs and organise your own day. We don’t micromanage and we’re not interested in watching the clock. What matters to us is that the work is completed properly, customers are looked after and you communicate with the team.

For the right person, this role also offers genuine career progression.

Our goal is to develop someone who can eventually take on more responsibility, including site inspections, system design, preparing quotes and working directly with customers to develop security solutions.

If you’re an experienced technician who wants to move beyond simply being handed jobs every day, this could be a great prospect to take the next step in your career.

Responsibilities

Your role will initially include:

- Installing and commissioning CCTV, alarm and access control systems

- Programming and configuring security systems

- Fault finding, servicing and maintaining existing systems

- Completing system upgrades and modifications

- Training customers on how to use their security systems

- Providing occasional technical support to customers

- Managing your daily jobs, materials and workload

- Liaising with customers, builders, electricians and other trades

- Completing installations to a high professional standard

As you develop within the role, there will also be opportunities to become involved in:

- Attending sites to assess customer security requirements

- Designing CCTV, alarm and access control solutions

- Preparing scopes of work

- Assisting with and eventually preparing customer quotations

- Providing technical advice to customers

- Managing projects from initial enquiry through to completion

- Mentoring junior technicians and apprentices as the team grows

Skills & Experience

We are looking for someone who can confidently work independently and already has solid industry experience.

Ideally, you will have:

- Minimum 3 years' experience installing and servicing electronic security systems

- Current Victorian Driver Licence

- Current Victorian Security Installer Registration/Licence

- Open Cabling Registration

- Construction Induction Card – White Card

- Strong experience with CCTV, alarm and access control systems

- Good fault-finding and diagnostic skills

- Excellent customer service and communication skills

- A professional and reliable approach to your work

- The ability to work independently without constant supervision

- The confidence to communicate directly with customers and understand their requirements

Experience with the following would be highly regarded:

- Inner Range Inception

- Inner Range Integriti

- Hikvision CCTV and security products

- Bosch alarm systems

You don’t need to know every product we use. If you have a strong security background, know how to fault find, can communicate well with customers and are keen to keep developing your skills, we’d still like to hear from you.

Career Progression

This role has been created as part of the continued growth of Ranges Alarms, and we are looking for someone who can grow with us.

For the right person,

we want to provide a pathway from experienced technician into a more senior position involving quoting, system design, project planning and customer consultation.

We’ll provide training and support to help you develop these skills.

What's In It For You?

We want this to be a job you actually enjoy.

Depending on your experience, we can offer:

- Competitive and negotiable salary

- Fully maintained company vehicle

- Company phone and laptop

- Uniforms supplied

- Tools supplied

- Small, supportive team

- Variety of commercial and residential security work

- Autonomy to manage your own jobs

- Genuine career progression

- Training in quoting, system design and customer consultation

- Opportunity to move into a more senior technical role

- No unnecessary micromanagement

Genuine Flexibility

We recognise that people have lives outside of work.

Need to drop the kids at school? Start later.

Want to get away early before a long weekend? Start earlier.

We care far more about the quality of your work, communication and looking after our customers than whether you arrive at exactly the same time every morning.

For the right person, we are happy to structure the role around what works for both you and the business.

There is no on call or overtime required for this job.

What We're Looking For

We’re not just looking for someone who can install security systems.

We want someone who:

- Takes pride in their work

- Can be trusted to manage their own jobs

- Gets along well with customers and other trades

- Wants to be part of a small team

- Is comfortable taking responsibility

- Wants to continue developing professionally

- Is interested in progressing into quoting and system design

- Could eventually help guide junior technicians and apprentices

If you're an experienced Security Technician who wants more autonomy, genuine flexibility and the opportunity to progress beyond the tools, we'd like to hear from you.

Important

Applicants must have unrestricted rights to work in Australia.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position.

A current Victorian Driver Licence and the appropriate Victorian security industry registration/licensing are required.

Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
