Fit Test Victoria

Mount Waverley

Casual position with potential option to go permanent part-time down the track :-)

You have stumbled across a great position, mate! Woo hoo!

Let's jump right into it…

Who We Are

For Fit's Sake/Fit Test Victoria Pty Ltd was started in 2022 to make respirator fit testing more accessible than ever. While working as a consultant at the Victorian Department of Health and the University of Melbourne, Crystal Polson, our founder, heard the cries of the fit-test-less and decided to do something about it.

Fast forward four years later and we're the leading provider of quantitative respirator fit testing, earplug fit testing, and fit test courses in Victoria.

We serve a variety of industries including construction, mining, engineering, automotive, healthcare, aged care, and even art restoration, to name a few. We also fit test nursing/medical/allied health students for their clinical placements.

We take pride in providing ‘above and beyond’ customer service - always. Delivering an exceptional experience for our clients is not just a goal, it's the cornerstone of our business.

What We Need

We're looking for a Fit Tester extraordinaire to provide respirator and ear plug fit testing at our current office in Mount Waverley.

This is a casual position with the opportunity to transition to part-time if we're a good fit.

While having fit-testing experience would be pretty sweet, we're willing to train the right person.

We'll also teach you how to educate and train our clients on the safe and appropriate use of respirators and hearing protection (this is a BIG part of the role).

Hours and Scheduling

We're as flexible as a yoga instructor on a Saturday morning - well, almost.

We're looking for one or two people to work across all shifts (M-F). Open to one person taking all shifts or split shifts between two staff. It would be around 15-20 hours per week.

We can discuss and negotiate the schedule if you get called for an interview.

What to Expect

We believe anyone can push start on a fit test machine and call themselves a fit tester (and lots of people do). But fit testing is just one component of this role. We use the fit test as an opportunity to educate folks on how to properly use their respirators, how to change filters, how filters work, and how to use hearing protection.

You'll be expected to learn this and be able to educate our clients during their tests.

To succeed in this role, you must be able to work autonomously and be an excellent problem solver. If you prefer to work in teams and/or need a lot of hand-holding, this job isn't for you.

About You

- You're a generally fun person to be around (at least after you've had your coffee) with a knack for making people feel at ease. You can effortlessly provide the ‘above and beyond’ customer service we're known for.

-You are punctual and reliable. We are an appointment-based service and our clients rely on us to be on time, every time. If you have a habit of running late or oversleeping, this isn't the role for you.

-You have a great sense of humour and aren't afraid to tell a bad dad joke. What did the grape say when it got stepped on (answer at the end)?

- Working autonomously is your butter AND your jam. You're self-motivated, can manage your day without someone breathing down your neck, you have a ‘can do’ attitude, and you're great at figuring things out even when they seem unfigureoutable.

-You don't get offended or defensive, or completely shut down, when offered constructive feedback. Some people do. You don't.

-You're tech-savvy. If machines, computers and software send you running for the hills, you should start running that way now (and away from this job ad).

What You'll Do

- Conduct quantitative respirator fit testing in line with AS/NZS 1715:2009, ISO 16975:3, and OSHA protocols.

-Conduct ear plug and ear muff fit testing.

-Check clients in using our online booking system. Call folks who are running late.

- Generate fit test reports that are 1000% error-free. Right name, right spelling, right respirator, right protocol. Every time. You must be detail-oriented to ensure timely and accurate reporting. Clients get their fit test reports the same day.

-Educate clients on the safe and appropriate use of respiratory protective equipment and filters, and hearing protection devices.

This is a major part of your role and you'll be provided with all the resources you need to learn and apply this.

-Troubleshoot equipment and respirators. Being able to identify problems and correct them is what sets an expert fit tester apart from someone who pushes 'start' on the machines. We are expert fit testers, not button pushers :-).

-Handle product sales.

-Keep track of office stock and consumables.

-Make sure the office is clean and tidy. We don't expect you to bring your Rubbermaid gloves and hand-scrub the floors like Cinderella, but you'll run the vacuum over the testing area rug before you leave, wipe down hard surfaces/equipment, and keep equipment/supplies organised.

Qualifications

- A background in healthcare, occupational hygiene, or occupational health & safety would be awesome, but not imperative. We're happy to train the right person.

- Post-secondary education is a bonus but not an absolute requirement.

-If you have experience fit testing, that would be fantastic. But again, not a deal breaker. We can provide training.

-You must be very comfortable using technology, equipment, software, computers and stubborn printers that refuse to print.

Pay & Benefits

- $37 per hour + 12% super

- A truly supportive and friendly work environment – because life's too short to work with a**holes.

-Dedicated VIP parking spot smack dab in front of our office. If you prefer public transport, the office is across the road from the train station.

Start Date

Start date is TBD but likely around mid-October after interviews are completed.

And Finally…

This bears repeating - please don't apply if you're not keen to work alone or aren't comfortable problem-solving on your own. If you prefer a setting with lots of people/coworkers around, this job isn't for you.

Please take a minute to write a cover paragraph (doesn't need to be an essay) to let us know why you decided to apply for this position.

If you're shortlisted, we'll call you in for a chat.

Answer to the bad dad joke: Nothing. It just let out a little wine :-)
