About the Role

As the Leading Hand Machinist, you will play a key role in coordinating workshop activities while remaining actively involved in manufacturing and fabrication work. You will lead a small team, mentor tradespeople, and drive improvements to workshop efficiency, productivity, and job scheduling.

The workshop specialises in the machining and fabrication of components using manual equipment, working predominantly with mild steel materials including RHS, flat bar, and round bar, with occasional aluminium and stainless-steel work.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Leading and mentoring workshop personnel
- Planning and scheduling workshop activities to ensure timely completion of work
- Driving process improvements and workshop efficiencies
- Liaising with suppliers and assisting with procurement activities
- Managing workflow priorities and resource allocation
- Operating manual lathes, milling machines, and grinders
- Performing light MIG welding and fabrication tasks as required
- Maintaining quality, safety, and productivity standards

About You





To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:

- Trade qualification in Engineering, Machining, Fitting & Turning, Fabrication, or a related discipline
- Experience working within a manual machine shop setting
- Strong capability operating manual lathes, milling machines, and grinders
- Previous team leadership, supervisory, or Leading Hand experience
- Experience with workshop scheduling and coordinating workloads
- Exposure to procurement and supplier management
- Strong people management and mentoring skills
- Fabrication experience, including the manufacture of custom components, structures, staircases, or similar engineered products
- Basic MIG welding capability
- Experience using ERP systems such as MYOB Acumatica will be highly regarded but is not essential
- Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident only at this time
