Accountant

Mission

The Accountant is the person who keeps the finances ticking along for both CFG and Dynamic Fire — payroll, compliance, accounts payable, and general finance admin — so the Commercial Manager can trust the numbers and the compliance calendar without needing to double-check them. This is a shared finance function serving both entities, reporting to the Commercial Manager. It's a hands-on role: you'll be doing the work yourself, not overseeing someone else doing it, and you'll be working closely with the Senior Accountant, sharing the load across a number of tasks so the team runs smoothly together rather than in silos.

Outcomes

1. Payroll runs smoothly and on time, every pay cycle.

● People are paid correctly and on time, every cycle, in line with the relevant awards and agreements.

● STP reporting, PAYG withholding, and superannuation are lodged and paid accurately and on time.

● Leave balances and accruals are reconciled monthly, so entitlements are always right if someone asks.

● Payroll questions from staff are answered promptly and confidently, without needing to go to the Commercial Manager.

2. Accounts payable is well looked after and suppliers are paid on time.

● Invoices are coded, matched, and approved correctly, and paid within agreed terms — this may be shared with the Senior Accountant depending on workload.

● Supplier accounts are reconciled regularly, with anything unusual picked up and sorted out early rather than turning into a dispute.

● Supplier queries are handled promptly and courteously, so CFG and Dynamic Fire are easy and reliable to deal with.

3. Compliance obligations are met, every time, without last-minute scrambles.

● GST/BAS and payroll tax are calculated accurately and lodged on time, every cycle.

● FBT is prepared and lodged accurately each year, covering vehicles provided to employees.

● Workers compensation (WorkCover) annual wage declarations are lodged accurately and on time.

● ASIC annual review obligations are met on time, with company details kept current.

● Workpapers for the annual income tax return are compiled accurately and on time for the external accountant.

● The compliance register (insurances, licenses, workers compensation, and other renewals)

is kept up to date across both CFG and Dynamic Fire, with renewals flagged well in advance so nothing is ever left to the last minute.

● Ready and organised when an external audit comes around, so it's a smooth process rather than a scramble.

4. Month-end close, reconciliations, and reporting run smoothly, giving the Commercial Manager confidence to focus on the bigger picture.

● Journal entries and month-end adjustments are accurate and completed to a reliable monthly timetable.

● Balance sheet and system reconciliations — including Uptick to MYOB — are completed accurately and on time each month, so the accounts are always in good shape.

● Accruals and prepayments are maintained accurately each month, so results reflect what's actually happened, not just what's been invoiced.

● Intercompany balances between CFG and Agile Fire are reconciled monthly, with any discrepancies chased down promptly.

● Day-to-day admin and transactional tasks get done reliably, without needing reminders.

● Shared processes are documented and followed consistently, so the work holds together well whether it's you or the Senior Accountant picking something up.

5. Works well as part of a small, connected finance team — sharing tasks with the Senior Accountant, guiding the offshore Finance Officer, and Credit Controller.

● A genuine working partnership with the Senior Accountant, with tasks shared sensibly between you rather than rigidly divided — covering for each other, picking up the slack when one of you is stretched, and keeping WIP, job costing, and cost-to-complete data consistent between you.

● Clear, patient guidance for the offshore Finance Officer so their work is right the first time, despite the distance and time difference.

● Once the Credit Controller joins, accounts payable and accounts receivable/collections stay well aligned,

so the Commercial Manager always gets a consistent picture.

Competencies

Role-Specific

● Payroll and compliance know-how — comfortable and confident running payroll, STP, superannuation, and payroll tax — genuinely enjoys being the person who gets these right, not just tolerates it.

● Solid accounting fundamentals — strong grasp of accounts payable, reconciliations, and GST/BAS.

● Comfortable with the systems — confident in MYOB, and comfortable working in Uptick alongside it, so the day-to-day processing is quick and accurate.

● A genuine eye for detail — naturally double-checks their own work and catches things before they become a problem for someone else.

● Enjoys making things better — follows good processes but also looks for small ways to simplify or speed up the repetitive parts of the job, rather than just accepting things as they are.

Cultural / Character

● Reliable and easy to hand things to — gets on with the work without needing to be chased — the Commercial Manager can hand something off and know it'll be done well and on time.

● Speaks up early — if something's not quite right — a looming deadline, a discrepancy, a compliance gap — they'll say so early and directly, rather than hoping it sorts itself out.

● A genuine team player — works comfortably alongside the Project Accountant, sharing tasks and pitching in where needed, and takes the time to support and guide the offshore Finance Officer patiently and clearly.

● Takes pride in ownership — treats their part of the compliance calendar and day-to-day workload as their own to look after, not something to be reminded about.

Experience

● Accounting qualification — formally accounting qualified — a CA/CPA is not required.

● MYOB experience — hands-on, practical experience working in MYOB day to day.

● SME experience — has worked in a small-to-medium business before, where finance is lean and you get involved in everything rather than one narrow slice of a large finance team.

● Construction or trade industry experience — preferable, not essential — exposure to job costing, WIP, or a trade/construction environment is a bonus, not a requirement.
