Forgepoint Recruitment is seeking an experienced CNC Machinist or CNC Operator for an advanced manufacturing and product development business in Sydney. This is a five week contract with an immediate start.
The work is prototype and small-batch machining rather than long production runs, so the parts change constantly and no two weeks look the same. Engineering, machining, fabrication and assembly all happen side by side in the one workshop, which means you'll see the parts you make go straight into finished product.
You'll be running a SYIL X9 CNC mill with Siemens 828D control, producing components to standard machining tolerances across a range of materials. You'll get structured handover and support through your first week, and after that you'll be trusted to run your own work.
What you'll be doing
Setting up, operating and editing programs on a SYIL X9 CNC mill (Siemens 828D)
Machining prototype and low-volume components to drawing
Working across a variety of materials
Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
Selecting tooling and workholding, and setting speeds and feeds




In-process inspection and measurement
Pitching in with fabrication and assembly where the team needs it

What you'll need
Solid hands-on CNC experience - toolroom, job shop, prototype or R&D; background ideal
Confident on Siemens controls, or robust Fanuc/Haas experience and quick to pick up a current control
Able to work autonomously with minimal supervision
Comfortable in a small, quick-moving business where the job description is a starting point, not a boundary
Full working rights in Australia and reliable transport
