Description:
ScotsX is The Scots College's transdisciplinary Middle School incubator, reimagining how Years 7 & 8 students encounter knowledge — not as isolated subjects, but as connected ways of thinking about real problems. We are looking for a Curriculum Designer/Practitioner who is ready to help shape what that looks like in practice: designing and delivering assessment experiences, or "Quests",



that weave NESA Stage 4 outcomes into genuinely challenging, enriching, and memorable learning.
Key Accountabilities:
Design and deliver interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary Quests (assessment tasks) for Years 7 & 8, built on a strong working knowledge of NESA Stage 4 outcomes
Plan and run X-Days — full-day, off-campus transdisciplinary fieldwork experiences involving data collection, community and industry contacts, and non-academic perspectives
Carry a teaching load made up entirely of ScotsX lessons, blending student-directed inquiry with structured teacher guidance
Design engaging learning spaces and experiences beyond the traditional classroom
Collaborate closely with the ScotsX design team to keep the program coherent, current, and ambitious
Involvement in Sport and/or Co-Curricular activities for at least one semester per year (Teachers only).
The Role:
Your teaching load will sit entirely within ScotsX. Rather than delivering a single subject, you will design and facilitate student-directed and teacher-guided learning that draws on and integrates outcomes across multiple Stage 4 syllabii. Central to the role is the design and delivery of
Quests — assessment tasks that ask students to apply disciplinary knowledge to authentic, multidisciplinary problems, and
X-Days: full-day field research experiences that take students out of the classroom to gather data, perspectives, and evidence from real-world sites and non-academic experts,



bringing fresh angles to well-worn topics.
Knowledge:
You know Stage 4 syllabus outcomes well enough to move confidently between subjects — but what sets you apart is the willingness to be creative with them: to see where History, Geography, Science, English, and Maths outcomes can be brought together into a single, well-designed task rather than kept in separate boxes. You are as comfortable planning a day of fieldwork with an external partner as you are mapping outcomes to a rubric.

Skills and Experiences:
Essential Requirements:
A genuine willingness to work collaboratively — this role sits within a design team of at least three curriculum designers and practitioners, and shared authorship is core to how ScotsX operates
Working knowledge of NESA Stage 4 syllabus outcomes across multiple Key Learning Areas
Demonstrated creativity in designing assessment and learning experiences that go beyond conventional task design
Confidence delivering student-directed and guided learning outside a single-subject classroom model
Experience or strong interest in organising learning beyond the classroom, including engagement with community, industry, or non-academic partners
Current NSW Working with Children Check, or eligibility to obtain one
The scope of the job may change as necessitated by business demands and involvement in additional projects as required is also an expectation.
