This role didn't exist six months ago. It exists now because the business needs a right hand for its Portfolio Manager, someone who can take real ownership of a specialty liability portfolio and run it like it's their own.

You'd step in as 2IC. No direct reports yet, but real authority: you sign off referrals outside the team's underwriting limit, you own the external stakeholder relationships, and you run the portfolio day to day.

What you'll actually be doing

Managing relationships with external program partners and stakeholders, day in, day out
n
Signing off referrals that sit outside the team's underwriting authority
n
Overseeing audits, renewal negotiations and each program renewal
n
Running business reviews, monthly reporting and debtor management across the binder
n
Mentoring and coaching junior underwriters, with a genuine pathway into people leadership
n

The portfolio
n
Programs worth $3.5 million and up, but the individual transactions sit between $500 and $5,000. High volume, small tickets, big overall profit.



If your background is open market on bigger single accounts, this flips the model. Most underwriters who make the switch don't go back.

Plan for three things, get eight. Ad hoc urgent referrals. A manuscript endorsement that needs drafting today. Audit findings. A referral with risk engineering. This is a quick-paced seat for someone who doesn't rattle when priorities move.

Who we're looking for
n
n
Already underwriting and managing a portfolio, likely inside an MGA
n
Strong technical liability underwriting background
n
Comfortable running a high volume of smaller transactions while still owning the performance of the total program
n
Confident negotiating, influencing and building relationships with brokers and clients
n
Makes decisions with minimal supervision, and knows when to escape
n
