The role ALS is seeking a skilled and versatile Maintenance Tradesperson to join our team at ALS Metallurgy, based in Balcatta.
This is a full-time permanent position reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor.
As part of a small, close-knit site maintenance team, you will play a hands‐on role in keeping our facility, infrastructure, and specialised metallurgical testwork equipment operating safely and efficiently.
The scope of work spans from general site handyman tasks through to minor fabrication and repairs, making this an ideal role for a fabrication-based tradesperson who enjoys variety and takes pride in maintaining a high-quality working setting.
Day to day responsibilities
Carry out a wide variety of planned and reactive maintenance tasks across the site, ranging from general handyman work through to minor fabrication and structural repairs.
Perform welding, cutting, grinding, and fabrication work to support the upkeep and modification of site infrastructure and equipment.
Maintain, repair, and support the operation of metallurgical test work equipment used across the facility.
Assist with the installation and commissioning of new equipment and infrastructure as required.
Identify maintenance issues and contribute proactively to continuous improvement of site reliability and safety.
Collaborate with a small maintenance team and work closely with other departments to minimize disruption to operations.
Support shutdown and project work as required.
Ensure all work is performed in compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.




Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and uphold a high standard of workmanship throughout.
Essential qualifications
Trade qualification in a fabrication-based discipline — Boilermaking, Welding, or Fitting (Certificate III or equivalent).
Demonstrated hands‐on experience in a maintenance role within an industrial, processing, or similar environment.
Competent in welding and fabrication techniques with the ability to carry out minor structural and equipment repairs.
Comfortable performing a broad range of tasks from general site handyman duties through to skilled trade work.
Experience maintaining or supporting the operation of specialized process or test work equipment is advantageous.
Strong commitment to workplace health, safety, and quality standards.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, sketches, and technical documentation.
Good communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative, team‐first attitude.
Self‐motivated and able to work with minimal supervision while managing competing priorities.
High attention to detail and a genuine pride in the quality and safety of workmanship.
