Site Assistant — **** State Election Port Melbourne | Casual | $***** per hour | Nov – Dec **** | Extensive number of positions available Be part of delivering the **** State Election HOBAN Recruitment has partnered with a government organisation to deliver the **** State Election.
We are hiring a large team of Site Assistants to keep a secure central ballot processing facility in Port Melbourne running safely and efficiently from early November through to mid-December.
This is hands-on, physical, fast-paced work in a large warehouse environment, alongside hundreds of others, on one of the biggest logistical operations in the state.
No election experience is required — we will train you.
What you'll be doing Setting up, reconfiguring and packing down work areas, benches, tables, chairs and signage across the site Receiving, unloading and moving consignments of secure ballot material as they arrive from voting centres across the state Lifting, carrying, stacking and palletising boxes of ballot papers and election material Moving material between scanning, counting and storage zones using trolleys, pallet jacks and cages Keeping supply lines flowing so scanning and counting teams always have material to work with Following strict security and chain-of-custody procedures at all times — every box is tracked Maintaining a clean, tidy and secure worksite, including waste and recycling management Assisting with site access, wayfinding and directing workers and visitors Supporting site registration, check-in and check-out at the start and end of each shift General site support duties as directed by your on-site supervisor The assignment Assignment window: 2 November – 13 December **** (42 days) Approximately 14 shifts per worker across the window — this is not a full-time, every-day assignment Day, afternoon and night shifts available; shifts are typically 8 hours and include weekends and the election weekend Location: Port Melbourne VIC Pay: $***** per hour, with shift penalties and overtime paid in line with the applicable Award/Agreement Induction and training provided before your first shift You must be available for the full assignment window and accept the roster you are offered GETTING TO SITE — PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING There is NO parking at the site.




You must not drive to, or attempt to park at, it.
A free shuttle bus runs between Southern Cross Station and the site for every shift.
You are strongly advised to use it.
Public transport to Southern Cross, then the shuttle, is the intended way to get to work.
Taxi or rideshare directly to site is the only other option.
Shuttle travel time sits OUTSIDE your rostered start and finish times and is not paid.
Please factor this into your travel planning before accepting a roster.
What we're looking for A genuine willingness to do physical work — you will be on your feet and lifting for most of your shift The ability to repeatedly lift and carry boxes of up to approximately 16kg, and to bend, reach, push and pull throughout a shift Reliability — turning up, on time, for every shift you accept is the single most important thing in this role A safety-first attitude and the ability to follow instructions and procedures precisely The ability to work respectfully in a very large, diverse team under supervision Discretion and integrity — you will be working around secure electoral material Warehouse, logistics, production, events, hospitality or general labouring experience is well regarded but not essential Forklift or pallet jack licences are a bonus, not a requirement Essential requirements National Police Check: every worker on this assignment must complete a National Police Check and receive a satisfactory result before they can be placed on site.
HOBAN will arrange this as part of onboarding — you cannot start without it.
Full availability: you must be available across the entire 2 November – 13 December **** window, including weekends and evenings.
Right to work: you must have valid working rights in Australia.

We will confirm your visa conditions with you and roster you within them.
You will need to provide evidence of your working rights.
Age: you must be 18 years or older.
Transport: you must be able to get to and from Port Melbourne via the free shuttle, public transport, taxi or rideshare.
There is no parking at site.
Training: you must attend induction and training before your first shift.
