People & CulturePayroll OfficerOverall, Purpose of the PositionThe Payroll Officer is responsible for supporting the accurate and timely preparation, processing and administration of Barker's fortnightly payroll for all employees and casual staff.
Working closely with the Payroll Manager and Senior Payroll Officer, the role provides payroll administration support, maintains employee payroll records, assists with compliance requirements, and responds to payroll-related enquiries while always ensuring confidentiality and accuracy.Primary Duties & ResponsibilitiesAssist with the preparation and processing of the fortnightly payrollMaintain employee payroll records, including entering new employees and updating employeeProcess timesheets, including manual timesheet entries where requiredSupport the Senior Payroll Officer with termination payments, long service leave calculations and other payroll adjustmentsPrepare and distribute payroll reports as requiredAssist with payroll reconciliations and data checkingMaintain accurate payroll filing and record‐keeping systemsSupport onboarding, contract variation and offboarding administration, particularly during peak periods throughout December and JanuaryAssist with superannuation reconciliations and uploadsAssist with quarterly contractor superannuation reconciliations and reportingProcess monthly union fee deductions and reconciliationsAssist in the interpretation and application of payroll-related Awards, Enterprise Agreements and employment conditionsRespond to payroll enquiries from employees in a timely, qualified and customer‐focused mannerReconcile leave balances, calculations and employee entitlementsSupport annual remuneration reviews and salary increases, including CMEA annual increasesMaintain government agency documentation and reporting requirements,
including PRODAAttend regular meetings with Human Resources and other stakeholders as requiredUndertake other payroll and administrative duties as directed by the Payroll Manager or Senior Payroll OfficerSkills and Knowledge Essential to the JobTechnicalMinimum of 3-5 years' payroll administration experienceSound understanding of payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation and employment obligationsStrong numeracy and Microsoft Excel skillsExperience interpreting Awards, Enterprise Agreements and employment conditionsExperience using payroll and HRIS systemsExperience with Aurion and/or Clipboard payroll systems highly regardedExperience within the education sector is desirableEssential Personal AttributesExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong attention to detail and commitment to accuracyAbility to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise discretionStrong organisational and time management skillsAbility to work effectively as part of a teamAbility to manage competing priorities and meet strict deadlinesStrong analytical and problem‐solving skillsCommitment to delivering high levels of customer serviceAbility to support the Christian values and ethos of the SchoolAccountabilityChild SafetyBarker College has an abiding commitment to the safety, protection and well‐being of all children and young people in our care.
